Even though the ending of Stranger Things left Eleven’s future uncertain, Millie Bobby Brown will reprise her role in the new spinoff, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, just a few months after the main series concluded. While the ending was emotional for all the characters, Eleven faced the most heartbreaking outcome.
Even though Eleven saved her friends and the world by defeating Vecna and closing the gate to the Upside Down, she has to make a huge sacrifice to escape the dangerous Dr. Kay and the military. This act finally shuts down the experiments at Hawkins Lab, but it leaves Mike devastated by her loss.
Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 Features Eleven As A Main Character
During the final Dungeons & Dragons game in the show, Mike suggested Eleven might have pretended to disappear just to have a normal life. This idea was just as sad, making it great news that Millie Bobby Brown will be back as Eleven in April 2026.
Unfortunately, the next installment of the Stranger Things universe probably won’t reveal what happens to the show’s main hero. The first spin-off, Tales from ’85, is an animated series that bridges seasons 2 and 3, showing viewers what Dustin, Mike, Lucas, Eleven, Max, Steve, and some new characters were doing during the missing months.
Unlike most spinoff shows that introduce new characters and locations, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 is doing something different. It will continue the story with the same characters and during the same time period as the original Stranger Things, essentially adding a missing piece to the existing narrative rather than starting a completely new one.
Why Millie Bobby Brown Is Not Returning As Eleven In Tales From ’85
Even though a new season is coming, fans shouldn’t expect to see the original cast return. Netflix has replaced the main actors for this series, with Brooklyn Davey Norstedt taking over the role of Eleven from Millie Bobby Brown. Brown is currently busy filming two other movies: Just Picture It and Enola Holmes 3.
There’s another reason Millie Bobby Brown wasn’t in Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, and it’s not about her schedule. Critics have pointed out that the original Stranger Things actors were getting noticeably older than their characters by the final season. This spinoff features even younger versions of those same characters.
The upcoming show, Tales from ’85, had to find new actors for the lead roles because the original actors are now too old to play teenagers. Replacing the main characters in Stranger Things is a gamble, though. If the new cast works well, the series could continue for a long time, but if not, Tales from ’85 might feel like a cheap copy.
Because the new show features the same characters, takes place in the same location, and is set shortly after the original series ended, it will naturally bring the first show to mind. With so much remaining familiar, the new versions of the beloved characters in Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 risk feeling like simple duplicates.
