The finale of Stranger Things sparked a lot of debate, especially regarding what happened to Eleven. While some viewers think she died, others believe she survived. Most of the actors have now shared their opinions on the ending, and we’re finally hearing from the last one who hadn’t spoken up.
Gaten Matarazzo, known for his role as Dustin in Stranger Things, recently discussed his new movie, Pizza Movie, and the show’s final season with The Hollywood Reporter. He finally shared his thoughts on Eleven’s fate, admitting he initially wanted to avoid the question. “I was going to stay quiet,” he said, “but since everyone else is sharing their opinions, I will too.” However, Matarazzo expressed reluctance to believe Eleven is gone. He thinks it would be disappointing. While he believes Dustin himself would conclude she’s dead – being a realistic, evidence-based thinker – he thinks Dustin would tell others she’s still alive for the sake of his friends, especially Mike, who is more optimistic.
Matarazzo admitted they weren’t sure what happened to the character, saying, “I really don’t know.” While they thought the character likely died, they also believed Matt and Ross Duffer intended to potentially reverse that outcome at some point. Ultimately, Matarazzo stated, “I’m going to say I don’t know right now.”
Eleven’s Fate Wasn’t The Only Stranger Things Topic Matarazzo Commented On

Noah Matarazzo, who plays Dustin on Stranger Things, also talked about the rumors surrounding the finale. After the last episode aired, many fans believed there was a hidden ninth episode intended as the real ending to the show. Although the Duffer Brothers quickly denied this theory, it continued to circulate among viewers.
It was a bit disappointing when the rumored secret episode didn’t materialize, and everyone finally accepted that the last episode really was the end. But it’s funny – I heard from Gaten Matarazzo that someone actually cancelled a date, convinced that ninth episode was dropping that night! It just shows how much fans were hoping for more.
Matarazzo admitted it was a bit disappointing to see the project fall through, especially knowing how excited many people were about it. He still thought the idea was good, pointing out that other projects have been using bold publicity tactics recently, which likely inspired it. While he enjoyed watching the buzz, he felt bad having to tell people it wasn’t going to happen.
The complete Stranger Things series is now streaming on Netflix.
