Some video games are fun, but others are truly exceptional and set the standard for their genre. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is definitely one of those masterpieces.
Even though Ocarina of Time came out almost 30 years ago, it’s still one of the most popular video games ever made. So, many people are hoping Nintendo will release a remastered version for the next Switch.
Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Stuns In Unreal Engine 5
So beautiful I could weep
Although Nintendo isn’t currently planning an official remake of Ocarina of Time, a fan project has been steadily developing for years, and it’s consistently looking better and better.
For about six years, YouTuber CryZENx has been recreating the 1998 game in Unreal Engine, and has even released playable demos. It’s surprising Nintendo hasn’t stopped the project, but it’s great to see it continue and evolve alongside the Unreal Engine over the years.
Their latest video showcases the Lake Hylia area, and the water effects are absolutely beautiful. The level of detail is incredible – even though I always thought it was a freshwater lake, it now seems to have coral reefs! It’s so visually impressive that it’s hard to find fault with even that detail.
Will Nintendo Ever Remake Ocarina Of Time?
All we can do is hope
It’s unclear if Nintendo will ever fully remaster Ocarina of Time, and it seems unlikely. Luckily, we already have a fantastic remake – The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D – which came out on the 3DS in 2011. I think that version is still the best way to experience this classic game.
Honestly, if Nintendo would just release that game on the Switch 2 with better graphics, I’d be thrilled. But for now, all we can do is watch what CryZENx is doing – it’s cool to see, but frustrating because we can’t actually play it ourselves. Thinking about it like that… yeah, it’s a bit of a downer.
Although it seems unlikely, a complete remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time isn’t out of the question. With a new LEGO set coming soon and a movie in the works, Nintendo might consider revisiting this classic adventure to capitalize on its popularity. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if they do.
