Some movie and TV themes are timeless, and vampires are a perfect example. Despite countless adaptations over the years, they remain consistently popular. A 2022 Netflix vampire film is particularly deserving of a follow-up, and its director – a renowned stunt performer – is hoping for not just one sequel, but a whole trilogy! He’s even hinted at a major actor who could join the cast if it gets made.
Let’s talk about J.J. Perry, a true master of stunts who also directed Netflix’s surprisingly fun vampire flick, *Day Shift*. I recently chatted with Perry and Dave Bautista about their new action-adventure, *Afterburn*, and Perry dropped some exciting news. Not only does he envision a *Day Shift* trilogy, but he’s actively hoping to get Bautista involved in the next installment! It sounds like he really wants Bautista to join the fun, and honestly, I can see why – they clearly work well together.
A Shift Trilogy and New Vampire Hunter

I was chatting with Perry about the possibility of continuing the story from Day Shift, and he was totally enthusiastic about it! He even has titles picked out for the next two movies. He said they’d be called *Night Shift* and then *Graveyard Shift*. He was joking that I could even be one of the vampire hunters, maybe even taking over for Dave Bautista! It was a fun thought, and he seemed genuinely excited about the potential for more films.
Dave Bautista immediately agreed to participate, and surprisingly, despite his extensive film career, he’s never actually been in a vampire movie – until now, potentially.
Dave Bautista has been wanting to star in a vampire movie for years, and he’s finally found a project that fits the bill. ‘I haven’t gotten my vampire movie yet… I’ve been saying I wanted to get into that space, and I haven’t found it. So I’m in,’ he explained.
A Vampire Action Comedy

In the movie *Day Shift*, Jamie Foxx plays Bud, a hard-working father who has a secret life: he hunts vampires. He balances his nighttime job cleaning pools with his dangerous vampire hunting to support his daughter, Paige, and prevent his wife, Jocelyn, from relocating them.
The movie also features Seth (Dave Franco), who joins Bud on his vampire hunts but is clumsy and often messes things up, providing a lot of the film’s humor. Although they start off not getting along, Bud and Seth eventually become a great team. And then there’s Big John Elliott, played by Snoop Dogg – a cowboy who hunts vampires, and he’s as cool as you’d expect!
The movie is full of laughs, but it doesn’t shy away from intense and shocking action. From large-scale chases to gritty hand-to-hand fights, *Day Shift* delivers it all – including the amazing sight of Big John Elliott using a silver-bullet Gatling gun! Hopefully, this success means we’ll get another movie starring Dave Bautista, because the potential for a sequel is huge.
Before the release of *Night Shift*, check out *Afterburn*, the new movie starring Perry and Bautista, which hits theaters on September 19th.
