Okay, so after a long wait, and a bunch of legal stuff with Krafton, I’m super excited to say that Subnautica 2 is finally hitting early access on May 14th! It’ll be available on Xbox Series X/S and PC. They just dropped a new trailer, and honestly, it looks terrifying – it shows a team of underwater explorers getting seriously picked off one by one. Definitely hyped!
This leaves just one creature to escape, barely avoiding being eaten by a bigger predator, and finally reaching the surface. Among the shimmering flying fish, it finds some rocky outcroppings to rest on, then looks up at a strange, looming structure.
You begin the game as part of a group fleeing an unspecified conflict, joining the Alterra corporation and boarding the spaceship CICADA in hopes of starting a new life. But, as is common in Subnautica, things don’t go as planned. Your main goal is survival, but you quickly learn that you also hold the key to humanity’s future on this alien planet – no big deal!
The Steam page for Subnautica 2 reveals it will launch with multiple environments, diverse creatures, multiplayer capabilities, a starting storyline, and plenty of items to build. Just like the previous Subnautica games, the developers plan to add more content through major updates. While they have a rough plan for future additions, Unknown Worlds is eager to get feedback from players and incorporate their ideas.
The early access version of Subnautica 2 will launch on May 14th at 8 AM Pacific Time and cost $29.99. The price will go up once the game is fully released, but this is a one-time purchase that includes all future updates, even after version 1.0.
