Subnautica 2 Sells Over 1 Million Copies, Peaks at Nearly 468,000 Concurrent Steam Players

Subnautica 2, the new game from Unknown Worlds, is now available in early access on Xbox Series X/S and PC, and also through Game Pass. It’s already proving popular, with over one million copies sold even before its official release.

Steam numbers are looking good! The game reached a peak of over 467,000 concurrent players, and that number is likely to increase as more people hear about it. Currently, it has almost 1,300 user reviews, with an impressive 86% of players recommending it, earning it a “Very Positive” rating.

It’s important to be aware of some negative feedback, particularly concerns about the license agreement. Some users claim it violates European data privacy rules (GDPR), as it suggests that Unknown Worlds owns any content players create. The agreement also appears to waive the right to participate in class-action lawsuits and allows for data collection, including sharing and selling that data.

Some players are unhappy with the game’s data collection policies, as you can’t choose to opt out or play without accepting the terms. It remains to be seen how the developer will address these concerns. Additionally, the game lacks a field-of-view slider, and the default setting is considered quite narrow. Players with 13th or 14th generation Intel processors have also reported crashes, so a fix is expected soon.
