What’s your writing process for Such Brave Girls?
My sister Lizzie and I usually catch up at the end of each week, and we end up sharing about ten funny stories, along with all the silly thoughts we’ve had. I always write them down so we don’t forget!
Your sister plays your character’s sister in the show – what’s that like?
I probably wouldn’t have minded if they hadn’t chosen me for the role, but it was really important to me that Lizzie was cast. I hadn’t seen anyone like her on television before – she’s just naturally hilarious, self-assured, and full of energy.

You were lucky she was good, then!
It was such a relief! She was amazing, but I expected she would be. We’ve always been able to find humor even in difficult or upsetting experiences. A while back, I had just gotten out of the hospital and she was struggling financially, and that’s actually how the show started – it was the perfect place to begin telling our story.
Who are the comedy writers you admire?
I really admire Jesse Armstrong – he’s the creator of shows like Peep Show and Succession. He was incredibly supportive when I was working on the first series, and he gave me some great advice for the second. He said it would feel like I was building on the first series, almost writing fan fiction, but that I should embrace that and focus on what the characters needed. He also gave me helpful feedback on the script and was a fantastic person to bounce ideas off of. I’m also very close to my script editor, Cameron Loxdale – he’s one of my best friends.
