James Gunn has hinted at a potential reveal of details regarding the forthcoming Superman: Part 2 in the near future.
What did James Gunn say about Superman 2?
Recently, during conversations with fans on Threads, Gunn shared insights into the procedure of penning the sequel to the Superman movie. Gunn disclosed that he’s juggling tasks, being involved in promotions for Peacemaker Season 2 and simultaneously drafting a “sequel” set for release in 2025.
In response to a question about whether the movie in question was indeed a film other than Superman 2, director Gunn confirmed this, clarifying that it wasn’t Superman 2 per se but highlighted that Superman will continue to play a significant role. When another fan asked for more specifics on the project details, Gunn indicated that we are yet to receive official confirmation and that we should expect updates at a later stage.
James Gunn previously hinted at a new Superman movie, but he also mentioned that the upcoming film will deviate somewhat from typical expectations. So far, specifics about this have not been disclosed, but Gunn has confirmed it won’t be another “Batman vs. Superman” or a “World’s Finest” picture starring Batman.
Currently, there’s no confirmed information regarding when Superman 2 could potentially be released or how it fits into the broader storyline of the DC Universe. At present, the movie doesn’t have a scheduled release date.
From a die-hard movie lover’s perspective, it’s yet undecided whether the forthcoming film by Gunn will solely focus on Superman. It appears that this upcoming production won’t serve as a direct sequel to the 2025 Superman installment, but Gunn is well aware of the immense significance David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman holds for the DC Universe as a whole.
