In the expanding DC Universe, James Gunn is making an effort to ensure each film and television series can be enjoyed individually (minimizing the need for extensive background knowledge for a specific project). Yet, given that it’s a connected universe, there are numerous ties between titles. After John Cena made a humorous appearance as Peacemaker in Superman, characters from Superman have been appearing in Peacemaker’s second season. One of these characters notably was Kal-El himself, who showed up with the Justice Gang and Supergirl in the controversial Justice League retcon within Peacemaker. With speculation swirling about a larger role for Superman as Peacemaker Season 2 unfolds, a new photo featuring David Corenswet is bound to stir up more discussion.
On his Instagram page, Corenswet posted a snap he took alongside John Cena from the set of “Peacemaker”. It’s worth noting that during this meet-up, both actors were dressed for their roles. Corenswet donned his well-known Superman attire, while Cena sported the outfit of Christopher Smith, a character seen in episodes 3 and 4 of “Peacemaker” Season 2. Here’s the picture below:

What David Corenswet’s BTS Photo Could Mean for Peacemaker Season 2
In the lower-left corner of Corenswet’s photo, numbers “23/7/24” are visible, implying this picture was taken on July 23, 2024. This date is notable because both Season 2 of Superman and Peacemaker were being filmed simultaneously. Filming for Peacemaker commenced in June of the previous year, while production on Superman finished on July 30, 2024. Since Gunn directed both shows, it’s plausible that he was juggling duties between both sets. With Corenswet preparing to wrap his first role as Superman, there might have been a possibility of him dropping by the Peacemaker set to see his director.
In this situation, it appears unusual for Corenswet to don the complete Superman outfit rather than regular clothes. There’s speculation that both Superman and Peacemaker might have been filmed on the same day, leading the actors to seize the chance for a costume-clad photo opportunity. Some enthusiasts may view this image as suggesting that Corenswet’s Superman could play a significant role in Peacemaker Season 2, but it could simply be a coincidence or friendly moment between co-stars.
Initially, it might seem like Corenswet was on the set of Peacemaker to film something for the Season 1 recap, where the 11th Street Kids interact with the Justice Gang (including Superman) after overcoming the Butterflies. However, Cena’s wardrobe contradicts this idea. His costume is evidently from the third and fourth episodes of Peacemaker Season 2, suggesting that this encounter between the two DCU stars might be for a future episode, unless filming was happening out of sequence. Since Gunn has referred to Peacemaker Season 2 as a direct continuation of Superman, it’s reasonable to anticipate that Superman would have a significant role in the storyline.
In the fourth episode of Season 2, titled “Need I Say Door,” of the series Peacemaker, we find Christopher Smith preparing to flee from ARGUS and potentially seeking refuge in a parallel dimension where he and his family are celebrated as heroes. While this alternate reality will offer some respite, it’s clear that there will still be plenty of action within the main DC Universe.
As the hunt for Smith ensues, Superman might get involved, especially since the dimensional fissures discovered in Peacemaker’s home have been likened to the portals Lex Luthor utilized in the film Superman. It seems that Superman may want to track down Smith to grasp the situation and help him regain control. However, there is also a possibility that in his new dimension, Peacemaker encounters a variant of Superman played by Corenswet.
