Survivoronly crowns one winner each season, but not all contestants leave the island alone.
Despite the island’s basic conditions, many romantic relationships have blossomed on the reality show. A prime example is Rob Mariano and Amber Mariano, arguably the series’ most famous couple. What began as a strategic alliance in season 8 evolved into a real romance, culminating in a proposal on the season finale and their marriage in 2005.
After over 20 years together, Amber and her partner have built a lasting relationship – a rarity among couples who met on reality TV. They now have four daughters: Lucia, 16, Carina, 15, Isabetta, 13, and Adelina, 11. Amber believes meeting on Survivor actually helped them form a genuine connection, as it allowed them to bypass typical superficial concerns.
Amber explained to Entertainment Tonight in 2020 that how she and her partner began their relationship was unlike most dating experiences. She pointed out that being on Survivor meant extremely limited personal care – no brushing teeth or hair, or even changing clothes.
She explained that they didn’t try to put on airs or pretend to be something they weren’t. It was, she said, a very genuine connection.
Interestingly, Rob wasn’t the only one finding love on the island. His friend, Ozzy Lusth, also started a relationship with Amanda Kimmel, another contestant from season 8. They left the show as a couple, and Ozzy even ended things with his girlfriend at the time to be with Amanda, but their relationship didn’t last long – they broke up after just a few months.

Ugh, honestly, being on that island was INSANE – the heat, the challenges, fighting for that million dollars with someone… it was everything I dreamed of! But looking back, I just didn’t feel a real connection with them, you know? Our personalities just clashed, and it was so disappointing. It just… didn’t work out the way I hoped it would, and it really bummed me out.
Ozzy wasn’t the only one finding romance on the show. Dee Valladares, who competed alongside Ozzy in season 50, had a similar experience in season 45. Her close alliance with Austin Li Coon developed into a romantic connection.
After Dee won the competition in 2023, she and Austin never publicly confirmed whether they were dating. Austin told Entertainment Weekly in December that they preferred to keep their relationship private. It later came out that Austin had started dating Amanda Probst, who is the niece of Survivor host Jeff Probst.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always fascinated by connections that blossom under pressure! Let’s take a look at some Survivor couples – some have managed to build lasting relationships long after leaving the island, while others, sadly, fizzled out shortly after the final tribal council. We’ll explore which romances truly survived and which were ultimately ‘snuffed out’.

Matt and Frannie instantly connected when they met on the beach during season 44. Their romance blossomed throughout the show, and they’re still together today.
To celebrate their first anniversary, Frannie shared a journal entry she’d written on the very first day of filming Survivor.
Okay, I’m officially starting to really like Matt, and it’s freaking me out a little. I mean, I want us to be best friends, which is already dangerous territory because I can feel myself wanting to believe everything he says. And honestly? I’m pretty sure I’m about to just spill my entire brain to him. I need to stop myself! Seriously, brain, pull it together! No more getting attached, no more oversharing! I have to build up a wall right now!

Jaclyn and Jon, who competed on Survivor: San Juan del Sur, got married in August 2015 near Detroit. They later welcomed their son, Logan Samuel, in June 2022.

Parvati Shallow, well-known from several seasons of Survivor and the winner of Fans vs. Favorites, began a relationship with John Fincher from Survivor: Samoa in 2014. They married in 2017 and had a daughter in 2018. Shortly after giving birth, Parvati competed on Winners at War. The couple filed for divorce in August 2021.

This couple first met while filming the reality show Survivor in 2014 during the Worlds Apart season. They didn’t start dating right away, but became a couple a few years later and got engaged on April 9, 2019. They then married in a beautiful wedding ceremony in Utah just before Thanksgiving in 2019.
The couple are parents to daughter Della Dawn, 3, and son Vander Joseph, born in August 2022.

They started dating! Even though they competed on separate seasons of the show, they became a couple while staying home during the 2020 quarantine. Dean announced their relationship on Instagram in August 2020, playfully referencing ‘summer love.’ However, they broke up before Michele joined the cast of MTV’s The Challenge.

Okay, seriously, I completely lost it when I saw the news! Elizabeth and Jack are officially a couple! She posted on Instagram, and I swear I screamed. She said she has a curly-haired boyfriend named Jack, and she thinks he’s the sweetest person ever! And get this – they even share hair products! It’s the cutest thing, I’m obsessed, they’re perfect together!
And the Island of the Idols pair announced theit engagement in November 2022.

Tarzan and Jen from Survivor: Ghost Island became so close during filming that they began creating video blogs and a shared Instagram account.
Unfortunately, Sebastian and his partner split up. He then briefly appeared to be in a romantic relationship with Tori Deal on season two of The Challenge: USA.

Brandon Hantz and Rachel Wood met on the 2011 season of Survivor: South Pacific and quickly connected. They later competed together on The Amazing Race, married in 2014, and now have a son named Duncan, who is 14 months old.

Kara and her fellow contestant from Survivor: David vs. Goliah (Season 37) began dating in San Diego after filming wrapped. “We had a strong connection and became great friends while on the show,” Kara told TopMob News. “It was clear when we got back home that we wanted to be together.”
Sadly, the couple separated privately, and Alec later told Entertainment Weekly in 2021 that it was a “very peaceful and friendly split.”

The romantic relationship between the two winners became public during an episode of Survivor: Winners at War when a tribe shuffle unexpectedly put them on the same team.
After a tribe switch-up, Michele jokingly wondered how she ended up stranded on an island with her ex, Wendell. She explained that their previous relationship, though short-lived, was quite a story, and she hoped they could get along better this time around.
Spoiler alert: Neither won the season.

Boston Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich are a famous couple who found love while competing on the reality show Survivor: All-Stars in 2003. They quickly became engaged and even had a televised wedding in 2005. The couple also competed together on The Amazing Race, first in season seven and later on The Amazing Race: All-Stars in 2007. They have four daughters, and both returned to compete on Survivor in season 40.

After appearing on Survivor: Blood vs. Water—which Tyson Apostol won—the couple got engaged at the end of season two of Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars and married in 2015.
They’ve since welcomed two daughters and Tyson most recently competed on Winners at War.

The couple were introduced by Johnny Fairplay and were engaged, but the relationship didn’t last.

I was so excited when I heard Jeff Probst and Lisa Berry started dating! It happened after they finished filming Survivor: Vanuatu, and they managed to keep it under wraps until after her season actually aired. They seemed really happy together for a while – a few years, actually – but sadly, they eventually went their separate ways.

Todd Herzog, who won Survivor: China, began dating Spencer Duhm, a contestant from Survivor: Tocantins, in 2009. They later broke up, and Todd eventually sought help for his alcohol addiction on an episode of Dr. Phil.

Courtney Yates, from Survivor: China, and Stephen Fishbach, from Survivor: Tocantins, didn’t play on the show at the same time, but they met in 2009 and started dating. The relationship didn’t work out, and Stephen later married in 2018.

Jenna Morhaime and Rob Mariano, both winners of the reality show Survivor, first met during the Survivor: The Amazon finale. They began dating in 2003 and were a couple for a decade, even competing together on The Amazing Race. In 2013, a representative announced their decision to separate after ten years together. The statement highlighted that despite the split, they would always cherish the loving, supportive, and friendly relationship they shared.
We’ve shared many wonderful moments and overcome difficult times together, and even though we’re separating, those experiences will always be special. We appreciate everyone’s support and ask for privacy as we both move on with our lives. Ethan is now married and is returning for season 40 as one of the 20 contestants.

The couple first met as contestants on Survivor: China in 2007. They got married two years later and now have a son together.

Alex Bell and Kim Powers both appeared on different seasons of Survivor and later married in 2006.

Carolina Eastwood, who competed on Survivor: Tocantins, and David Murphy, from Survivor: Redemption Island, announced their engagement on television during the Redemption Island reunion show. Unfortunately, they didn’t get married and eventually ended their relationship.

I remember when Jason Siska and Chelsea Welch first connected – it was on Survivor: Micronesia! They definitely had a showmance while filming, and it was so cute to watch. They actually continued dating after the season ended, but sadly, things didn’t work out long-term and they eventually broke up.

Oh my gosh, Dee and Austin on Season 45? The connection was instant. You could just feel the sparks flying between them! It was so obvious they were falling for each other while they were playing the game. But then… after Dee won, everything just… ended. They went their separate ways, and honestly, it broke my heart! I was really rooting for them!
Okay, so after the show, Austin was being so secretive about whether he and I were still together! He told Entertainment Weekly he wanted to keep things private, which, honestly, just made me crazy! The real reason? We’d actually broken up before the finale even aired. Can you believe it? He’d already moved on and started dating Amanda, who is, get this, Jeff Probst’s niece! I found out in November 2023, and it was… a lot to process, let me tell you.
He acknowledged that the news might be unexpected, especially considering how things ended on the show, but explained that filming wrapped last spring and their relationship developed respectfully afterward, as shared in a September 2024 Instagram post.

Although Austin appeared to have a romantic connection with Dee during the filming of season 45, he ultimately ended up in a relationship with someone else connected to the Survivor franchise.
He revealed in an Instagram post that he and Amanda first met in Chicago in November 2023 for a relaxed conversation about the show Survivor. They’ve been a couple ever since, recently celebrating their two-year anniversary in December 2025.
He celebrated his anniversary with a post saying he’s shared two years and five Survivor finales with ‘the most amazing girl in the entire world,’ adding, ‘Life is better with you.’

The couple from season 45 publicly revealed they were dating in June 2025, over two years after the show finished filming.
Katurah shared on Instagram that she and her partner both had trouble starting fires while competing on the show Survivor. However, she playfully wrote that the connection they’ve formed is a natural and lasting one. The post announced their relationship, celebrating them as the first Black queer couple to come together from the show, transitioning ‘From Players to Partners, from Castmates to Co-dreamers.’
Like all good fires, the pair’s slow-burn romance took some time to build.
Katurah told Out magazine that she and her friend started developing feelings for each other around August 2024. They began dating casually, but by January 2025, they realized they wanted a committed relationship.
