Channel 5 has released a trailer for a new documentary drama starring Martin Clunes, detailing the events surrounding the BBC presenter Huw Edwards and his recent issues.
“Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards” is a new program resulting from a partnership between Channel 5’s factual and drama teams. You can see a preview in the video provided.
The two-part drama stars Martin Clunes as Edwards, portraying a newsreader whose secret life unravels, ultimately leading to his conviction for serious crimes and complete disappearance from public view.
For many years, Edwards was a highly respected and familiar face delivering the news in Britain. He famously presented the BBC’s coverage of significant national moments, such as the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
In 2024, Edwards admitted to creating indecent images of children and received a six-month suspended sentence, meaning he wouldn’t serve time immediately unless he committed another crime.

Previously, 5 announced the series would provide a detailed and sensitive look at the Edwards scandal. It will be based on a year of in-depth research, including interviews with key people involved and full access to The Sun newspaper’s award-winning reporting on the story.
BAFTA-winning director Michael Samuels helmed the series, and the script was penned by Mark Burt, known for his work on ‘The Trial’.
A release date is yet to be confirmed, but 5 has said it’s due to air “soon”.
