Good news for Disney fans! Sources say Kathryn Hahn is being considered to portray Mother Gothel in the upcoming live-action version of Tangled.
In the 2010 movie, Gothel is the villain who uses Rapunzel’s magical hair to remain young forever.
Scarlett Johansson, known for her role as Black Widow, was a potential choice for the part back in October 2025, when the movie project started up again after being paused for a while.
The actor had to withdraw from the project because of conflicts with his filming schedule for The Batman: Part II and the new Exorcist movie. Fans immediately started an online campaign asking for Hahn to be cast instead.
I’m hearing from Deadline that Kathryn Hahn, who you probably know from ‘Agatha All Along’ and ‘The Studio,’ is being considered for a new role! It sounds like she’s in talks about it right now.

The upcoming live-action film will feature Teagan Croft, known for her role in Titans, as Rapunzel, and Milo Manheim from Disney Channel as Flynn Rider. Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi originally voiced these characters in the animated movie.
I just saw the news and honestly, I was touched. Max Manheim immediately posted a side-by-side photo on Instagram – him next to his character, Flynn – and his caption said it all: he’s just incredibly grateful, and beyond words to express it. It’s a sweet moment, really.
He added: “I will do him justice, I promise.”
I’m really excited about who’s working on this! Michael Gracey, the director behind Better Man and the visually stunning The Greatest Showman, is at the helm. And the producer is Kristin Burr – she’s got a great track record, having worked on films like Freakier Friday and the recent live-action Cruella. It’s a solid team, and I have high hopes!
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, who co-wrote and helmed Do Revenge, penned the script.
