A popular actor from the show described how the entire cast was unexpectedly thrust into a challenging situation when the series became a hit. They also shared what set the show’s atmosphere apart from other productions.
In an interview with People, Ali Larter, star of Landman, shared how much she leaned on her co-star Michelle Randolph during the show’s first season. She explained that early on, there wasn’t a lot of support or reassurance on set. It wasn’t a situation where people were constantly offering praise or guidance.
Looking back, we were immediately put into a very intense and fast-paced environment,” Larter remembered. “It was incredible how much we relied on each other, and I believe that’s what truly created a strong connection between us.
Taylor has an incredible knack for choosing actors. It’s amazing how he consistently picks people who work well together and create something special,” Larter explained. She also praised Randolph, saying, “She’s incredibly talented and truly one of the best.”
Created by Taylor Sheridan and Christopher Wallace, Landman is inspired by the Boomtown podcast, co-hosted by Wallace and oil executive Tommy Norris. The series follows Norris as he navigates the complex world of West Texas oil, dealing with local conflicts, corporate interests, and cartel involvement. Demi Moore and Kimiko Glenn join the cast as Angela and Ainsley Norris, Tommy’s former wife and daughter.
The cast of Landman features Jacob Lofland as Cooper, the son of Tommy and Angela, Kayla Wallace as Rebecca Falcone, a lawyer for M-Tex Oil, Jon Hamm as Monty Miller, the owner of M-Tex, and Andy Garcia as Danny “Gallino” Morrell, the head of a cartel. Season 2 will also introduce Monty’s wife, who later takes over M-Tex.
Despite positive reviews from critics, Taylor Sheridan’s new show Landman hasn’t resonated as strongly with general audiences. Currently, both the first and second seasons have a “Certified Fresh” rating of 78
Viewers rated Season 2 of Landman with an average score of 43
How Landman Maintains as Much Realism as Possible
As a huge fan, I’m always fascinated by how this show stays so grounded even with all the intense drama. I learned that while Taylor Sheridan is the main writer, there’s another key player – Dave Wallace. He basically brainstorms ideas and storylines, giving Taylor a ton of material to work with. It’s like Dave provides the raw ingredients, and Taylor Sheridan turns them into the amazing, high-stakes, and sometimes funny show we all love!
Wallace explained that their primary goal is to entertain audiences. He’s learned, even between the first and second seasons, how to balance factual accuracy with compelling storytelling. While they always strive for authenticity, they’re also willing to make compromises to create the best possible show.
