Taylor Sheridan had already written successful movies before creating Yellowstone, but the show truly launched his television career, giving him a lot of power at Paramount+. Though he’s created several new series that other writers have since contributed to – largely because one person can only do so much – Sheridan is known for wanting to be heavily involved in all his projects. He even decided against using a traditional writers’ room for Yellowstone, preferring to maintain creative control himself.
Yellowstone quickly became popular on Paramount+, offering a fresh and daring take on television that resonated with viewers who wanted content that didn’t shy away from challenging themes – something networks were often hesitant to showcase. When it came time to create the second season, creator Taylor Sheridan had to personally write all the scripts. He explained this in an interview with Gold Derby, saying:
We attempted to create a recording space, but we simply didn’t have the time. That’s when I ended up writing the entire second season.
By Season 3, the show began using a team of writers, shifting away from Taylor Sheridan writing all the scripts himself. However, the resulting scripts were so problematic that Sheridan had to step in and fix them, potentially saving the show from failure.
They attempted to secure a location for Season 3, but the scripts were so poorly written that they urgently reached out to me while I was directing a film in New Mexico with Angie Jolie. They explained the actors were refusing to work and were essentially rebelling. As a result, I ended up writing a Yellowstone episode every Saturday to help them out.
‘Landman’ is Taylor Sheridan’s Latest Success Story

Though Sheridan often lets others contribute to his shows, ‘Landman’ feels distinctly personal. He wrote the entire series himself, giving him full creative control – at least for the time being – over what audiences see each week.
The second season of Landman was a huge hit when it premiered in late 2025, consistently staying at the top of the ratings even though some viewers criticized its stories and characters. Despite this criticism, the show’s popularity suggests Taylor Sheridan still understands what his audience enjoys.

Filming for Landman Season 3 is starting shortly, with plans to release it later this year. But that’s not the only new show from Taylor Sheridan heading to Paramount+ before his deal with the network ends. The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell, will be the next to premiere in March. Written solely by Sheridan, it will be followed by returning favorites like Lioness, Tulsa King, and the Yellowstone spin-off, Marshals, all expected in 2026.
