Tearful Savannah Guthrie Says Mom Nancy Guthrie “May Already Be Gone”

Savannah Guthrie is pleading for Nancy Guthrie‘s return.

It’s been almost a month since the co-host of Today’s mother was taken from her home in Tucson, Arizona, and the journalist recently spoke about how difficult this situation is, pleading with those who took her mother to bring Nancy home safely.

In an Instagram video posted on February 24th, Savannah shared that it had been 24 days since her mother was taken from her home at night. She described the time since as incredibly painful, filled with worry, fear, longing, and a deep sense of missing her mother.

She went on, saying they hadn’t given up believing in a positive outcome. They still hoped for their loved one to recover and return home, even when it seemed unlikely. As her sister put it, they were desperately clinging to any remaining hope.

I’m just… completely devastated thinking about it. They’re worried about her, you know? Her health has been so fragile, she needs medication just to live. And honestly, they’re preparing for the worst – the thought that she might not be with us much longer is just… unbearable. It’s all I can think about.

She also expressed concern that the woman might be missing or even passed away. She suggested the woman may have found peace and returned to God, and is now reunited with her mother, father, and brother Pierce, as well as their father.

The 54-year-old stated that she and her siblings, Annie and Camron Guthrie, would come to terms with the news if Nancy, who disappeared on January 31st, is confirmed to be deceased. However, she stressed the importance of finding out what happened to their mother and knowing her whereabouts.

Savannah announced a reward of up to $1 million for information that helps bring her daughter home. She pleaded with anyone who knows something to come forward, saying, ‘Someone out there knows something that can bring her home, and we’re begging you to please come forward now.’

Please, if you know anything at all, please come forward. We just want to bring Mom home. We need to know what happened, so we can either rejoice and welcome her back, or celebrate the incredible life she lived – she was so brave and noble. Just be the one to shed some light on this darkness, please, please help us.

The news anchor, while asking for the safe return of Nancy, also announced that their family would donate $500,000 to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, inspired by the incredible support they’ve received from the public and media.

We understand we’re not the only ones going through this difficult time, and millions of other families have faced similar uncertainty,” she said. “We hope the attention our mother and our family have received will also help other families like ours who need help, prayers, and support.

As the search for Nancy continues, keep reading more information on the matriarch’s disappearance.

Nancy Guthrie, mother to Annie, Camron, and Savannah Guthrie, was last seen at her home in Tucson, Arizona, around 9:30 p.m. on January 31st, according to the Pima County police.

Police confirmed to Today that Nancy, 84, was reported missing by her family on February 1st. A friend had contacted her loved ones after noticing she hadn’t attended church that morning. After searching her property for about an hour, her children contacted authorities and officially reported her missing around noon.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos later explained the first steps of the investigation, which involved detectives specializing in homicides, at the victim’s home.

It’s unusual for us to involve the sheriff in a situation like this, but the details coming from the house are deeply troubling,” he explained to reporters on February 2nd. “This case was particularly striking because of what officers described finding at the scene, and what we actually discovered there.

It was so weird, even Detective Nanos said it wasn’t normal! Usually, they only send the homicide team when there’s… well, a body. But this time? They came because of what those surveyors reported. It just shows how seriously everyone took what they found, and honestly, it makes me even more obsessed with figuring out what happened!

After looking into what happened, officials said they think a crime occurred at Nancy’s house.

During a press conference on February 2nd, Nanos stated that investigators now believe they have confirmed a crime scene after processing the location. He asked for the public’s assistance, noting the community has consistently helped solve difficult cases and he hopes they will do so again.

The sheriff pointed out that Nancy had trouble getting around—she couldn’t walk even a short distance on her own—which led him to suspect something wasn’t right about her disappearance.

He stated, “We’re certain she didn’t simply leave on her own. Evidence at the location suggests something else happened.”

The search for Nancy is still ongoing, and officials are concerned because she needs daily medication to stay healthy, and she likely doesn’t have it with her.

During the February 2nd press conference, Nanos explained that an 84-year-old woman is facing serious health issues and urgently needs medication. Without it within 24 hours, her condition could become life-threatening.

We’re asking anyone with information about this – if you’ve seen or heard anything – to please get in touch with us. Call 911. We want to avoid another tragedy and really need the public’s help.

Okay, so everyone’s been worried about Nancy’s health, and yeah, it’s true she’s had some physical struggles for a while now. But honestly? It’s amazing to me how sharp she still is! Dr. Nanos keeps saying her mind is incredibly strong, and it’s so reassuring to know that even with everything, she’s still Nancy – quick-witted and brilliant. It just makes me adore her even more!

According to Nanos, Nancy Guthrie is mentally alert and this situation isn’t related to dementia. She’s still very sharp. The family wants to assure everyone that she didn’t simply wander away; her limited mobility is simply due to her age.

With the search for Nancy still ongoing, Nanos expressed his wish for her to come home safely.

“I hope we find her safe and sound,” he emphasized, “but we cannot ignore what’s in front of us.”

The day after Nancy was reported missing, the anchor of the Today show publicly shared how difficult this time is for her family.

Speaking for my family, I want to express our gratitude for all the kind thoughts, prayers, and messages we’ve received,” she told NBC’s morning show on February 2nd. “Our top priority right now is bringing Nancy home safely.

Honestly, I’m just so relieved the police have been working on this, and I really hope anyone who knows anything comes forward. Please, if you have even the smallest detail, contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. It could be huge!

Once Savannah learned her mother, Nancy, had been reported missing, her colleagues on the Today show publicly expressed their support.

Jenna Bush Hager shared on the February 2nd episode of Today with Jenna & Sheinelle that she is personally friends with Nancy and expressed her affection for her.

She continued, saying they were thinking of Savannah and her family and sending their prayers to them all.

Meanwhile, Sheinelle Jones emphasized the importance of community during this difficult time.

She felt the show was at its strongest when it asked viewers to help, encouraging them to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s department with any information related to the case, even if it seemed insignificant.

She added, “So we’re sending our prayers but we’re also sending our collective action.”

Before concluding the segment, both hosts continued, “We love you, Savannah.”

And Sunday Today anchor Willie Geist also urged fans to keep an eye out for Nancy.

On February 2nd, he posted on Instagram asking anyone with information about the whereabouts of Savannah Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona. He also included the sheriff’s department’s phone number, stating that she was missing.

Savannah’s former colleague, Hoda Kotb, responded to the surprising announcement by posting a heartwarming photo of Savannah and Nancy together on the Today show set. In a simple message on Instagram from February 2nd, Hoda shared a red heart and praying hands emoji.

Police have labeled Nancy’s home in Arizona a crime scene, but they don’t think the public needs to be worried.

Pima County Sheriff Nanos said at a press conference on February 2nd that he doesn’t believe there’s a current danger, but emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and much work remains.

Savannah hasn’t been on Today since February 1st, when her mother was reported missing. However, local authorities have been checking in with her to make sure she’s okay.

The sheriff confirmed they had spoken with her. She has a security team that has been communicating with them all night, but they aren’t ruling anything out yet.

On Feb. 2, Pima County police shared a series of updates on the timeline of Nancy’s disappearance.

Investigators now think the woman was taken from her home against her will, likely during the night, according to a Pima County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson on February 2nd. Detectives are investigating the possibility that she was kidnapped.

After news broke that Nancy might have been taken from her home in Arizona while she was sleeping, Savannah made a heartfelt plea.

In a recent Instagram post on February 2nd, she shared her faith, writing, “We believe in the power of prayer, in coming together with love and hope, and in the goodness of people. Most importantly, we believe in God.”

Savannah continued, thanking everyone for keeping her mother, Nancy, in their thoughts and prayers. She described Nancy as a woman of strong beliefs and a devoted person, and asked for continued prayers, believing they would offer comfort and strength right now.

She added, “we need you.”

To conclude her plea, Savannah shared a Bible verse from Isaiah.

She shared a verse from Isaiah, writing, ‘He will keep those with steadfast hearts, who trust in the Lord, in perfect peace.’ She felt it was a timeless message for everyone.

Savannah continued, “Bring her home.”

Pima County Sheriff Nanos stated that DNA evidence was discovered at Nancy’s house, which is now being treated as a crime scene.

We collected samples and are hopeful they contain enough DNA to help us identify what we’re looking for, he told NBC News in a report on Today on February 3rd.

Two days after Nancy went missing, Nanos explained what happened leading up to her disappearance in a press conference.

According to Nanos, the doorbell camera stopped working at 1:47 a.m., just about four hours after she got back from a family visit, as she explained in a press conference on February 5th.

The software identified someone at the door, but the video was automatically deleted because Nancy didn’t have a paid subscription. However, the representative assured her they were still working to recover the footage.

The sheriff explained that Nancy’s pacemaker app lost connection with her phone at 2:28 a.m. Later, at 11:56 a.m., her family found her missing, and they called 911 at 12:03 p.m. to report it to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.

About ten minutes after receiving the report, he explained that patrol teams would arrive, assess the situation, and then begin a response involving both search-and-rescue and detective units.

Oh my gosh, it was heartbreaking! On February 4th, I watched Savannah, Camron, and Annie read letters they’d written – letters to their mom, Nancy, and even to whoever might have taken her. They were just begging for her to come home safely, and it completely destroyed me. I wish I could have been there to help them, it was so raw and emotional.

In a video posted to Instagram, the family stated they are doing everything possible and are willing to negotiate. They emphasized the prevalence of manipulated media and urgently requested irrefutable proof that their loved one is still alive and in the captors’ possession.

My mom is the center of our world and everything to us. Her health is very delicate, and she’s constantly in pain. Right now, she doesn’t have the medication she desperately needs to stay alive and feel better.

The next day, Camron confirmed in a separate video that the family was still “waiting for contact.”

We’re asking whoever has our mother to please contact us. We haven’t received any direct communication and need to establish a way to connect so we can begin to resolve this.

During a press conference on February 5th, FBI agent Heith Janke announced the arrest of Derrick Callella from California. Callella is accused of sending fake texts as part of an attempt to profit from the situation – Janke described him as an “imposter.” Authorities are also taking a detailed ransom letter shared with TMZ “extremely seriously.” Callella has not yet entered a plea and was released on a $20,000 bond.

However, he noted, the Guthrie family was “still waiting for communication.”

On February 7th, the day officials told Today they had searched Annie’s Arizona home as a routine part of the investigation, Savannah posted another video on Instagram suggesting they’d received what they’d asked for.

Speaking while holding hands with Camron and Annie, she said they received the message and understand its meaning. She pleaded for their mother’s return, explaining it was the only way they could find peace and celebrate with her.

And if her intentions weren’t clear, Savannah added, “This is very valuable to us and we will pay.”

Investigators shared surveillance photos of a person of interest in the case on February 10th.

Footage from a camera on Nancy’s property shows a person wearing a ski mask and carrying a backpack walking up to the house. The individual then appears to punch the camera, breaking it. Police had previously noted the camera was damaged when they arrived.

For the past eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department have been collaborating with private companies to find any lost, damaged, or hidden images and videos from Nancy Guthrie’s home. This effort was necessary because recording devices were removed. They were able to recover the video from data stored within those systems, according to a statement shared with TopMob News.

“Working with our partners,” the note continued, “law enforcement has uncovered these previously inaccessible new images showing an armed individual appearing to have tampered with the camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance.”

Two days after the FBI shared video of the person who went near Nancy’s house, investigators provided a description of the suspect.

As a lifestyle and safety expert, I’m sharing details to help with identification. The person authorities are looking for is a man, roughly 5’9″ to 5’10” tall with a medium build. A key detail is he was seen carrying a black ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack – it’s a 25-liter size, so that should help narrow things down.

The FBI is now offering up to $100,000 – an increase from $50,000 – for information that helps find Nancy Guthrie or leads to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.

After Savannah Guthrie’s mother was reported missing over two weeks ago, Pima County Sheriff Nanos released a statement to explain who investigators are looking at in connection with the 84-year-old’s disappearance.

In a statement on February 16th, authorities confirmed that the entire Guthrie family – including all siblings and their spouses – have been ruled out as suspects in this case. They emphasized the family has been fully cooperative and are themselves victims of the situation.
