Nick Mohammed, known for his role in Ted Lasso, hints that the fourth season will introduce new characters. Though it appeared the show had finished after season 3 in 2023, Apple TV+ announced in March 2025 that season 4 was going ahead, and production started in July.
Jason Sudeikis is back as Ted Lasso, and he’s joined by the familiar faces of Hannah Waddingham (Rebecca Welton), Juno Temple (Keeley Jones), Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins). This season, Ted takes on a new challenge: coaching a women’s soccer team in Richmond.
In an interview with Collider, actor Lukmaan Mohammed, who plays Nathan Shelley on Ted Lasso, addressed the question of his character’s future on the show. While he’s contractually obligated to stay quiet about any potential storylines, Mohammed revealed that the upcoming season will focus on a new group of characters. Keeping this under wraps is probably best. It involves a completely new group of people, and I can’t say much without spoiling things! We’ll just have to wait and see who appears and when. I do know they’re currently filming, and I’ve been spending time with the cast and crew – everyone seems to be doing great, so we’ll see how it all turns out.
Considering many of the original Ted Lasso actors are set to reprise their roles, Mohammed’s statements are unexpected, particularly for viewers hoping the show will continue directly from season 3 and who are excited to see what happens with the characters they love.
Mohammed probably means the fourth season will center around the A.F.C. Richmond women’s team, rather than the men’s team.
The show will now center on the players of the new team, rather than following Jamie Tartt, Sam Obisanya, and Dani Rojas.
The show is adding Tanya Reynolds (known for Sex Education), Faye Marsay (Andor), Jude Mack (Back in Action), Abbie Hern (Enola Holmes 2), Rex Hayes, and Aisling Sharkey to the cast. Grant Feely, who appeared in Obi-Wan Kenobi, will now play Henry, Ted’s son – a role previously held by Gus Turner.
Rebecca, Keeley, Leslie, and Ted will all be back in important positions with the women’s team, but the next season will focus more on new characters than the ones viewers already know.
While Jamie, Sam, Dani, and other players could reappear, their main storylines wrapped up at the end of Ted Lasso season 3. However, with Coach Beard and Roy now coaching the team, it’ll be simpler to bring those characters back for future appearances.
It seems likely Mohammed will return to the show somehow. With Nate recently seen coaching with Roy and Coach Beard, a reappearance makes sense. His role might be smaller or kept a surprise until the season is released, which is why the show is being secretive about it.
Season 4 of Ted Lasso is still largely under wraps, and we don’t have a release date yet. However, the upcoming season promises a mix of returning favorites and new faces, aiming for a feel that’s both comforting and new.
