For numerous years, Greg Cipes has been a vital component in the DC animated universe, lending his voice to the youthful superhero Beast Boy across shows like “Teen Titans“, “Teen Titans Go”, and “Young Justice” among others. Lately, Cipes disclosed that he’s battling Parkinson’s disease but is making headway in his struggle against it. In a recent conversation, Cipes delved into various aspects of his life, voice acting career, and the prospect of the original “Teen Titans” animated series returning as the young versions of the superheroes continue to enjoy success on Cartoon Network.
Initially, Cipes expressed a desire to revive the initial “Teen Titans” series, which launched the DC animated franchise, in his conversation with Cartoon Network. He exclaimed, “Bring back the original Teen Titans!” Many fans, aside from expressing that he was part of their childhood, frequently share this sentiment with him. It’s astounding to think that a cartoon character like Beast Boy could touch so many lives so profoundly. The entire original cast and I are eager for this to become reality, and of course, I would be thrilled to reprise the role that sparked this incredible journey – playing Beast Boy!
Cipes Talkes Struggles With Parkinson’s
Previously this year, the voice actor behind Beast Boy disclosed his Parkinson’s disease diagnosis and has been met with an overwhelming wave of empathy and solidarity from both fans and colleagues. In his own words: “I want to express my sympathy towards everyone who is grappling with any illness or disability. It’s essential to have the unwavering support of your loved ones, companions, and work associates. Initially, I had to decipher what was causing my symptoms, which took some time. Since then, I’ve been and will continue to be confronted mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually during this demanding healing process as a result of Parkinson’s disease.
Additionally, Cipes expressed gratitude towards Warner Bros for their patience and support during his Parkinson’s journey. He mentioned that Sam Register, for 25 years, hasn’t dismissed him from portraying Beast Boy. He cherishes the various iterations of Beast Boy he’s embodied over time, including the latest version for Cartoon Network UK and potentially USA soon. Beast Boy is a significant part of him, and with his creativity, spirit, and resilience, he plans to continue voicing Beast Boy in “Teen Titans Go” season 10 and beyond. He joins prayers with his fellow “Teen Titans Go” cast and the legions of Beast Boy fans worldwide, hoping to keep portraying this little green character that has left an indelible mark on him and countless others.
