In an exciting turn of events, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Godzilla, two iconic characters, are set to clash in a timeless crossover. Currently, IDW Publishing houses both franchises, with the Ninja Turtles and Godzilla comics having been introduced relatively recently. The creative team for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is changing hands, as Jason Aaron and Juan Ferrerya conclude their tenure, and Gene Luen Yang and Freddie E. Williams II take over. On the other side, the first issue of Godzilla’s comic series has hit the shelves, marking the start of the Kai-Sei era within the Godzilla shared universe. Given the synergy between these two legendary characters, it seems fitting that they would team up for an epic crossover!
At San Diego Comic-Con, IDW Publishing unveiled the exciting collaboration between Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Godzilla. Not only did they introduce the creative duo of writer Tim Seeley and artist Fico Pe, but they also shared several covers to generate excitement for this event. Interestingly, Seeley is currently working on the main Godzilla series, while Pe previously illustrated the TMNT X Stranger Things crossover in 2023. This upcoming series will disclose the origins of the Foot Clan as a defense force against kaiju in Japan. It’s speculated that Shredder, leader of the Foot Clan, could be orchestrating Godzilla’s appearance to build his own kaiju army.
As a film enthusiast, I can’t help but express my sheer delight when I say that there might be only a handful of concepts in our cultural panorama as instantly recognizable, as flawlessly designed, as the Monster King and the Turtles who walk among us half-shelled. Merging these titans has been an absolute pleasure, akin to capturing a rare, organic interaction between living entities on paper. Working on this comic strip feels like I’m a privileged spectator, witnessing the meeting of real, breathing characters.

Both the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) and Godzilla are no strangers to major collaborations. In fact, the TMNT have joined forces with characters such as Batman, the Power Rangers, and He-Man from Masters of the Universe. On the other hand, Godzilla has squared off against the Justice League, and is now wreaking havoc in the Marvel Universe, as depicted in “Godzilla: Destroys the Marvel Universe”.
