To prepare for her role in the highly anticipated 2025 film Christy, Sydney Sweeney underwent extensive boxing training. She even built a gym reminiscent of the one in Rocky to get in shape. By the time filming began, she was skilled enough to convincingly perform boxing scenes, and according to her co-star Katy O’Brian, she could even throw a punch or two. O’Brian recently shared with TopMob that she texted Glen Powell about Sweeney’s boxing abilities while on set.
Katy O’Brian and Sydney Sweeney have both become close to Glen Powell, both professionally and personally. Sweeney starred alongside Powell in the popular romantic comedy Anyone but You, and O’Brian is working with him on Twisters and the upcoming movie The Running Man. O’Brian jokingly told TopMob that while working with director David Michôd on Christy, she’d text Powell about the physical demands of their scenes. When asked about sharing romantic scenes with Sweeney alongside Powell, O’Brian responded:
I honestly hadn’t given it much thought. I’d known Glen for a while – actually, we first met on the set of Twisters, long before Sydney. I did send him some photos while I was training, because I was about to start working on The Running Man. I was going back and forth between projects at the time, and I jokingly asked him to tell whoever was sparring with me to stop punching me in the face.
Sweeney had mentioned that she and her fellow actors genuinely took the hits during the film’s fight scenes, rather than pretending. It’s clear O’Brien benefited from this realistic training, and she even admitted enjoying being hit by her co-star. Even if she had known about the romantic connection between their characters earlier, it seems O’Brien would have preferred talking about the physical training with Powell.
It’s basically a photo of her hitting me during training – right in the face, actually. But I felt it would be really awkward to bring up that we were pretending to be a couple for the cameras. It wasn’t planned that way.
Katy O’Brian, who plays Lisa Holewyne – Christy Martin’s opponent and eventual partner – is incredibly skilled physically. She’s trained in martial arts since childhood and has also competed in bodybuilding. Given her background, she’s definitely capable of handling herself in a fight. Sydney Sweeney mentioned the demanding physical challenges of filming, and it’s safe to say no one would want to face O’Brian in a sparring match. The entire shoot was very physically taxing for everyone involved.

The Incredible Amount Of Weight Sydney Sweeney Dropped Between Filming Christy And The Housemaid
Sydney Sweeney, known for her role in Euphoria, has talked about how demanding it was to film her recent sports movie. She said the most challenging scene involved portraying a boxing match against Laila Ali, which left her covered in painful bruises. She even had to submerge her face in ice water for hours each night to recover. It’s amazing what actors will endure for their craft.
It’s clear there’s no real bad blood between Sweeney and O’Brian – they were just playfully teasing each other. I’m still curious about how Glen Powell reacted to the photo O’Brian sent him, though. Considering Powell’s physically demanding work, especially on their new movie, I’d guess he understands what O’Brian was going through.
You can now see Sydney Sweeney and Katy O’Brian facing off in the new movie Christy, which is currently showing in theaters across the country.
