TFI Friday with Chris Evans is returning to Channel 4 after 11 years – but with a twist

Chris Evans is returning the revived TFI Friday to Channel 4 with a new series called Unplugged, which starts later this week.

Channel 4 is adding six episodes of the Virgin Radio UK YouTube show to its programming. The series will premiere on Channel 4 on Friday, April 17th at 11 PM, and will also be available to watch for free on Channel4.com and their YouTube channel.

I’m so excited for the first episode! They’ve got an incredible lineup – Sam Ryder, Shreya Ghoshal, Jack Savoretti, Sindhu Vee, Gemma Arterton, Peter Capaldi, and Cush Jumbo will all be appearing. It’s going to be amazing!

Cimran Shah, a Channel 4 editor, said that “TFI Friday” was a pioneer of casual, personality-driven talk shows, well before video podcasts became popular. He’s excited to bring the show back to Channel 4 with a modern update that will appeal to today’s viewers, no matter how they watch.

The show originally started in the 1990s and soon became well-known for its live music performances, candid interviews, and unexpected events.

Channel 4 reports that Virgin Radio’s new Unplugged series keeps the spirit of the original but feels more personal and modern.

The show initially ran for six seasons, from 1996 to 2000, before ending. It returned briefly with a special episode in 2015, and Channel 4 then ordered a new, seventh season. However, after that season aired, the channel decided not to renew the show for any further seasons.

Dennie Morris, Head of Audio at News UK, commented that ‘TFI Friday’ has remained a well-known and loved show over the years. He expressed pride in seeing the program – and Chris Evans’ talent – return to Channel 4 in a new format, ‘TFI Unplugged’ on Virgin Radio UK. He anticipates audiences will enjoy rediscovering the show’s unique appeal, no matter how they choose to listen or watch.

TFI Friday Unplugged begins across Channel 4 on Friday 17 April.
