The 10 Most Powerful Characters in DC’s Absolute Universe, Ranked

The Absolute DC Universe began after the “All In” comic event, which followed “Absolute Power.” In that storyline, Darkseid builds a new universe where heroes are more vulnerable and villains have the upper hand. Like Marvel’s Ultimate Universe, this reimagines classic characters, but instead of modernizing them, it makes things much harder for the heroes to defeat their enemies. You’ll recognize familiar faces like Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, and the Flash, but they have significant weaknesses, and the villains are often terrifying monsters.

The DC Absolute Universe is facing a lot of shifts with new villains such as Ares, Clayface, and Solomon Grundy on the way, which could affect character power. However, here’s a look at who currently holds the most power.

10) Absolute Green Arrow

The latest Green Arrow has become significantly more powerful in the revamped DC Universe. This new hero emerged after Oliver Queen was killed while trying to get revenge on his former partner, Jubal Slade, who had committed terrible crimes against children. Before he could act, however, Queen was murdered by Hawkman – now a villain – and this new Green Arrow appeared several months later.

The new Green Arrow shares similarities with characters like Marvel’s Ghost Rider, having returned from death with a vengeance. He demonstrated his deadly power when Hector Hammond appeared at the Arrow Cave, immediately confronting him. The transformed Green Arrow swiftly defeated Hammond’s security team and even severed Hammond’s hand before Black Canary intervened, forcing him to retreat. This version of Green Arrow is a brutal and seemingly invincible fighter.

9) Absolute Joker

When the Joker first appeared in DC comics, he wasn’t very intimidating. He actually looked fairly normal, and surprisingly resembled Bruce Wayne more than the villain we know today. But after some changes to the DC Universe, the roles reversed: now the Joker is the wealthy, mysterious figure, while Bruce Wayne is struggling financially. The Joker’s wealth also allows him to operate as a serial killer while staying one step ahead of the law.

Everything shifted when Joker revealed his incredible new ability: transforming into a terrifying, dragon-like monster just for the thrill of the hunt. This is different from the Batman we know, who became a symbol of fear as a costumed crime fighter. While this monstrous form makes Joker incredibly powerful and dangerous, he’s still not quite as strong as DC’s most powerful beings.

8) Absolute Bane

I have to say, seeing Bane in this universe really drives home how powerful the villains have become! He’s absolutely massive – even bigger than the already imposing Absolute Batman. What’s fascinating is that he’s essentially Joker’s right-hand man now, and it all started with Joker offering protection to Bane’s homeland, Santa Prisca. Thankfully (or terrifyingly!), his strength still comes from the Venom formula, just like in the original comics.

But it’s more than just a strength enhancer. Absolute Universe Venom isn’t simply a super-steroid; it also sharpens the mind, giving users a better memory – something that sets this version of the character apart from the traditional portrayal of Bane. In fact, he’s proven capable of defeating Absolute Batman even without Venom, solidifying his place as one of Batman’s greatest enemies.

7) Absolute Brainiac

This Brainiac, from a universe separate from the main DC comics, isn’t a single being, but a malfunctioning robotic scout from an alien race called the Brainiac Collective. He crashes on Earth and initially teams up with Ra’s al Ghul and his organization, Lazarus Corp, to go after Superman. But he quickly breaks free from Ra’s control, becoming even more erratic and dangerous. Unlike the already powerful and brilliant Brainiac most fans know, this version is significantly more lethal.

He possesses a range of abilities, most stemming from cybernetic enhancements. While he can create illusions, his true power lies elsewhere. He’s capable of unleashing destructive energy blasts and even transferring his mind into new bodies, effectively making him immortal. But his most frightening ability is the power to manipulate bodies at a molecular level – he can warp bones and organs, causing horrific internal damage and vomiting.

6) Absolute Green Lantern (Jo Mullein)

The Absolute version of DC Comics features known Green Lantern characters, but Jo Mullein is the most prominent and powerful. This reality differs significantly from others: there’s no Green Lantern Corps, no Guardians choosing Lanterns, and no traditional power rings. Instead, Jo generates her power directly from within her body, displaying a glowing Green Lantern symbol on her chest as she channels pure green energy.

She received her abilities after a devastating loss – the destruction of a Green Lantern vessel and the planet Evergreen. During the attack, her wedding ring unexpectedly interfered with the power of Abin Sur, transferring it to her. Unlike traditional Green Lanterns who rely on willpower, she taps into a darker, more primal form of cosmic energy. Beyond the ring’s power, she also exhibits incredible healing, the ability to manipulate lifeforms, control temperature, and even shapeshift.

5) Absolute Martian Manhunter

In the Absolute DC universe, Martian Manhunter underwent a significant transformation. Rather than being a traditionally powerful Martian, he’s reimagined as John Jones, an FBI agent connected to a psychic entity called ‘the Martian,’ which exists only within thoughts. This connection grants them incredible mental abilities, and they also share many powers with the White Martians from DC Comics.

His Martian abilities have been reimagined. He no longer sees heat or X-rays; instead, he can perceive people’s thoughts as visible smoke that he breathes in to experience them – essentially giving him telepathy. Additionally, he can teleport himself and others by taking shortcuts through alternate dimensions using bizarre, non-traditional spatial geometry. Initially, these powers appeared to be illusions, but it’s now clear he genuinely alters reality, making him one of the most formidable beings in the Absolute universe.

4) Absolute Flash

In the Absolute Universe, the Flash is Wally West, a teenager who gained superpowers after an accident at a secret government project called Project Olympus. His father, Rudy West, worked there alongside Barry Allen, and the accident tragically resulted in Barry’s death while giving Wally his abilities. Wally quickly demonstrated his powers – not only incredible speed, but also the ability to travel through time – when he escaped a team of government operatives known as the Rogues.

What sets him apart is that his powers don’t come from the Speed Force like other speedsters. Instead, they’re connected to entropy – the natural tendency towards disorder and chaos. This is significant because his abilities originate from the same source Darkseid used to build the Absolute Universe, potentially making him one of the few beings capable of challenging its creator. His powers are still growing, and he may eventually become even more powerful than the world’s strongest heroes.

3) Absolute Wonder Woman

In the Absolute Universe, Wonder Woman—known as Diana—has a very different upbringing than most people realize. Instead of being raised by Amazonian warriors on Themyscira, she’s left with the exiled witch Circe on a dangerous island called the Wild Isle of Hell, making her the last Amazon to grow up in the underworld. This unique training gives her magical abilities alongside her fighting skills, making her an incredibly powerful sorceress and warrior. Diana also wields special weapons created by Circe in Hell, including a magically-made arm and other custom enchanted tools.

Okay, so Wonder Woman still has her iconic lasso, but this isn’t your grandma’s rope! It’s been seriously upgraded – now called the Nemesis Lasso, it practically glows red and is made from the remnants of a basilisk. Seriously cool backstory involving Prometheus and Demeter too. What makes it truly terrifying? The more evil someone is, the tighter and hotter this thing gets. As for Wonder Woman herself, she’s right up there with the most powerful heroes we’ve got; think demigod strength mixed with years of magical training and a weapon forged in Hell itself. Let’s just say she doesn’t mess around.

2) Absolute Superman

Similar to the classic DC Comics, Absolute Superman is Kal-El, the last survivor of Krypton. But in this version, he’s not all-powerful. He functions like a living solar battery, meaning he has to absorb and carefully manage sunlight to power his abilities. Every night, he needs to recharge in a special solar chamber, and if he doesn’t, he becomes weak. To help with this, he wears Sol, a suit made of advanced Kryptonian nanotech. This suit is also a form of artificial intelligence that tracks his energy levels and can change shape to shield him from harm.

Even with his weaknesses and need to recharge, Superman remains the most powerful hero on Earth. He’s upgraded his heat vision to fire destructive beams from his fists and has powerful Solar Crisis Armor for facing incredibly dangerous threats like Doomsday. He’s proven his strength by fighting a six-week war against the Lazarus Corp, overcoming Brainiac’s attempt to control his suit, and even becoming King Omega – the only hero capable of challenging Darkseid.

1) Darkseid

The Darkseid in the Absolute Universe is essentially the same being as the Darkseid we know from mainstream DC Comics, but far more powerful. He deliberately died in his universe’s beginning, unleashing immense energy and fusing with a cosmic force called the Spectre. This allowed him to recreate reality entirely, shaping it so that heroes were weak and villains held all the power. Ultimately, this Darkseid became a god within his new creation.

Darkseid created a new universe by placing a Heart of Apokolips within it, channeling all its energy back to himself and essentially becoming the reality’s life force. He then orchestrated a brutal tournament where the victor would gain the power to fight him – an event known as DC K.O.. Superman gained the King Alpha power through a sacrifice made by the Time Trapper and used it to overcome Lex Luthor. While Superman managed to restrain Darkseid, he couldn’t fully defeat him. When Superman relinquished the King Alpha power, Darkseid was restored to his full strength as the ultimate threat, setting the stage for another major crisis.
