As a fan, I’m really looking forward to 2026! It looks like we’re getting both a third season and a movie for The Apothecary Diaries. The anime, which is based on Natsu Hyuga’s popular historical novels, finished its second season in July 2025. Shortly after that, they hinted at more to come with a short teaser, and then in October, at the series’ second anniversary event, they revealed more details. The end of the second season took the story in a huge new direction, and it seems like we can expect even more mysteries and surprises. Everything has changed now that the Shi Clan is gone – the kingdom itself, and the lives of characters like Maomao.
The new season will continue to explore the challenges our main character faces as she finds herself caught up in various mysteries. To build excitement for the anime’s return, a special event was held in Japan featuring screenings of the first two seasons. The voice actors attended, sharing stories about their work on the show and teasing what’s to come. The anime’s official website shared details of the event, including a significant announcement from Aoi Yuki, the voice of Maomao, regarding the upcoming season.
The Apothecary Diaries Star Opens Up About The Cast Members

During a recent event, Yuki discussed the third season, mentioning that the cast has grown significantly. She expressed her appreciation for the large team involved and how much everyone enjoys working on the project, sharing her happiness at being able to connect with so many people involved.
Recording for the third season is underway, and the new episodes will premiere in October. The season will be split into two parts, with the second part arriving in April 2027. This part of the anime will cover events from the fifth light novel volume, focusing on Maomao’s return to Verdigris House to continue her work as an apothecary after leaving the Inner Court. Meanwhile, Jinshi has officially taken on his responsibilities as a member of the royal family now that his true identity is known.
The Apothecary Diaries Will Also Release a Feature Film This Year

During a recent event, Yuki talked about the new movie, saying she’d been playfully hinting at the plot – involving robots and reincarnation – but actually already knows what happens. She’s incredibly excited about it and believes it’s a must-see in theaters, encouraging everyone to look forward to its release.
Although specific details about the movie are still under wraps, audiences are excited to see what the story will bring. It’s a brand new tale from the author, focusing on the main characters as they navigate another series of puzzling events. Currently, the film is scheduled for release in Japan this December, with plans for international release dates to be announced later. Fans may receive updates after the Japanese release, suggesting a worldwide launch sometime next year.
