Colin Farrell, who’s been nominated for a Primetime Emmy for his role as the title character in The Penguin, shared in a recent interview if he’s looked at the script for Matt Reeves’ upcoming film, The Batman 2. Matt Reeves himself announced on social media last month that the script for The Batman: Part II, which he co-wrote with Mattson Tomlin, has been completed.
Colin Farrell is ‘very close’ to reading The Batman 2 script
Colin Farrell shared in a recent conversation with Deadline that he hasn’t delved into the script for the follow-up to 2022’s The Batman, penned by Reeves and Tomlin. He further mentioned, “However, I’m almost there. I can hardly wait. I’ll need to set aside some time when that occurs, make a pot of tea, find a comfortable spot, and focus intently.
Following his Primetime Emmy Award nomination as Outstanding Lead Actor for his portrayal of Oswald “Oz” Cobb / The Penguin in HBO’s series “The Penguin”, this marks Farrell’s first Emmy nod. Earlier, he had been recognized with an Oscar nomination for Best Actor, stemming from his performance as Pádraic Súilleabháin in the 2022 film “The Banshees of Inisherin”.
In the initial role as The Penguin in “The Batman,” Farrell garnered significant praise for his acting. He subsequently took on the character again in “The Penguin” and is expected to appear once more in “The Batman 2.” During an interview, Farrell complimented Reeves, stating he was both a remarkable writer and an exceptionally talented artist. Furthermore, he expressed that he anticipates the script for the sequel to be captivating, profound, and meticulously crafted, given Reeves’ perfectionist nature.
A few weeks ago, DCU co-leader James Gunn shared that he went through the script for The Batman 2 and found it to be exceptional. The Batman, its upcoming sequel, along with The Penguin, are all included in what director Matt Reeves and his team call the “Batman Epic Crime Saga.
The Batman 2 debuts in US theaters on October 1, 2027.
