Good news for fans of The Bay: filming for season six has officially begun! ITV has also announced who will be returning for the new episodes, which might hint at what’s in store for the upcoming storylines.
I’m so glad to hear that Marsha Thomason is returning as DS Jenn Townsend! It just wouldn’t feel like a proper season of The Bay without her. And I was worried about Tony! Last season, he was really struggling with being short-staffed and needed a break, but it’s fantastic news that Daniel Ryan will be back as DI Anthony ‘Tony’ Manning. I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens with both of them this season.
Both Andrew Dowbiggin, who plays DS James ‘Clarkie’ Clarke, and Olwen May, who plays DC Louise ‘Lou’ McClaren, will be returning to the show.
Suzanne Packer, who plays Anne Townsend, will be back as Jenn’s mother. Viewers will remember Jenn struggled with her mother following her father’s death last season.

Tara Lynne O’Neill, known for her role in ‘The Full Monty’, will return as Tony’s partner, Sinead. Jacob Butler, who appeared in ‘Coronation Street’, will reprise his role as Kieran, Manning’s son.
The new season follows Morecambe’s Major Investigation Unit as they investigate the murder of Logan Marsden, a teenager in foster care. The investigation is complicated by tensions within the local community, and the list of suspects grows from those who knew Logan to people involved in a local criminal network, uncovering secrets and surprising links along the way.
While working on the case, Jenn and Manning are also facing difficulties in their personal lives. These challenges are pushing them to their limits, both personally and professionally, as they strive to find answers and justice for Logan and his family.
So far, Barry Sloane, who plays Jenn’s partner Chris, hasn’t been mentioned in the cast list. The couple had combined their families and were living together, but the last season hinted at trouble in their relationship as Chris began confiding in a teacher at his school.
Despite already being very busy, Jenn and Chris managed to get through a difficult time. However, it looks like season 6 might mean the end of their relationship. And with Georgia Scholes not returning as Chris’s daughter Erin, it’s possible their family life is over.

This might be the personal issues mentioned in the show’s description, but we’ll find out as the story unfolds. Given that Sloane has been busy with roles in BBC’s The Cage and the upcoming season of House of the Dragon, it’s possible their schedule simply didn’t allow for a return to The Bay this season.
It appears Erin Shanagher, who played DS Karen Hobson, won’t be back for another season. Last season ended with her character facing a misconduct investigation and being suspended from her job.
When Tony offered to talk to Karen’s supervisor, she admitted she was questioning whether she still wanted to be a police officer, suggesting she might resign from the force.
I’m really excited to hear who’s joining the cast of The Bay! Apparently, Claire Calbraith, who was fantastic in Mr Bates vs the Post Office, and Alec Newman, known for his work in Dept. Q, will be playing Rebecca and Joe Hollis – Logan’s foster parents. It’s great to see some fresh faces and I’m looking forward to seeing how they fit into the storyline.
I was so excited to hear they’re filming season 6 of The Bay! The writer and executive producer, Daragh Carville, said it’s a real honor and a joy for him to be back in Morecambe to work on it, and honestly, that makes me even more hyped!
Marsha Thomason and Daniel Ryan return as the leads, teaming up with a fantastic group of guest stars for a brand new, intriguing murder mystery. The story kicks off with a surprising find at a seaside fairground.
