The latest season of The Bear finished with a big surprise: Carmy, played by Jeremy Allen White, decided to leave the restaurant business, handing the reins over to Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), Richie (Ebon Moss-Bachrach), and Sugar (Abby Elliott).
The new season’s trailer shows Carmy returning to the kitchen, but actor Edwin Lee Gibson, who plays Ebraheim, says his character is deeply upset by Carmy’s choice.
Speaking exclusively with TopMob, Gibson said: “I think just like everyone else, he’s gutted by it, because Carmy is Ebraheim’s only link to Mikey.
I became really interested in how Ebra reacted between seasons four and five, especially considering his long-standing connection to that location.

Jon Bernthal plays Mikey, Carmy’s brother, who tragically took his own life before the start of the series. He previously owned the restaurant, originally a Chicago sandwich shop called The Original Beef of Chicagoland, which Carmy later took over and transformed into the fine dining establishment seen in The Bear.
Lionel Gibson, who has played Ebraheim on The Bear since the beginning, recently told TopMob that the final episode of season five—the show’s last season—is incredibly emotional. However, he thinks there’s still potential for the story to go on.
Gibson appreciated how Christopher Storer developed season five, explaining that even though the final episode was emotionally difficult, it felt logically consistent. He also believes there are still further stories to be told.
The next season starts the day after Carmy reveals his plans. The story follows the team as they struggle with financial difficulties, the possibility of losing the restaurant, and a major storm. They’re determined to pull off one final, exceptional service, hoping to finally receive a Michelin star.
In the end, they discover that a truly great restaurant isn’t defined by its cuisine, but by the people who work there.
