Thanksgiving is here, and a classic Family Guy episode is perfect to watch! Thanksgiving isn’t a big focus for many TV shows, and even fewer animated sitcoms create special episodes for it. Very few shows consistently dedicate an entire episode to Thanksgiving each year. Over its 25 seasons, Family Guy has only featured a handful of episodes centered around the holiday.
Although Family Guy has done a few Thanksgiving episodes, one really stands out as a yearly favorite. The best Thanksgiving episode is Season 13’s “Turkey Guys.” It’s about Peter and Brian going on a wild adventure to find a new turkey after they accidentally ate the original one the night before, and things quickly get chaotic.
Family Guy’s Best Thanksgiving Episode
Given its reputation for pushing boundaries, it’s surprising that Family Guy doesn’t have many episodes centered around Thanksgiving. While a few episodes touch on the holiday, many only briefly mention it, like the Season 12 episode “Into Harmony’s Way.” Others, like Season 18’s “Shanksgiving,” are funny but focus on a different plot – in that case, Peter and his friends trying to avoid their families by intentionally getting arrested, which leads to an accidental prison stay.
Several episodes take place on Thanksgiving and introduce new family members. For example, Peter’s sister, Karen, first appears in the Season 14 episode, “Peter’s Sister,” which shows that she’s always teased him. While it ends with some crude humor, it’s not considered one of the show’s best. Season 10’s “Thanksgiving” episode is even more somber, focusing on Joe’s son, Kevin, who returns and reveals he left the military.
This episode marked the first Thanksgiving special in Family Guy, and a lot of time is spent discussing military service. While it’s arguably not the funniest of the bunch, you only really need to focus on “Turkey Guys” from Season 13. The episode centers around the Thanksgiving holiday and brings back the show’s familiar formula of Peter and Brian going on a quest – this time, to find a new turkey. It’s an episode you can enjoy watching again and again.
