As a huge fan of The Boys, I’m seeing a lot of upset online about how the series is ending. People are really vocal on X about the choices the writers are making, and honestly, some are saying this final season is completely ruining everything! They’re comparing it to the Game of Thrones finale – you know, the one everyone hated – and saying it’s undoing all the great stuff that made The Boys so amazing to begin with. It’s pretty disheartening to see, and I’m hoping things turn around!
Fans are disappointed that Soldier Boy wasn’t in the season finale. However, series creator Eric Kripke explained the decision in an interview with Collider, which was widely shared on X (formerly Twitter). Kripke said Homelander killed Soldier Boy because he couldn’t bear the thought of being abandoned by another father figure. Homelander’s issues stem from his troubled relationship with his own father and his fear of being abandoned by his son, Ryan. He simply couldn’t handle being left by ‘his dad’ again, especially since Soldier Boy’s previous departure wasn’t his fault.
The Internet Isn’t Interested in the Showrunner’s Reasoning for a Soldier Boy-less Finale

Fans are frustrated with a recent storyline in The Boys. One user pointed out that a character was heavily promoted and given a lot of screen time, only to be sidelined in a disappointing way. Another fan expressed disbelief that after five seasons of building up a weapon to defeat Homelander, the show seemingly abandoned that plotline, calling the writing decision poor.
Many viewers were disappointed that the show seemed to use the popular character Soldier Boy simply to set up a new prequel series called Vought Rising, where he’ll be a central figure. One fan put it this way: “Was Soldier Boy just a teaser for another show, even though he was presented as a key player in taking down Homelander since season 3?” And it seems like those fans have a valid reason to be frustrated with this decision.
