The Boys Just Set Up 1 Member of the Seven Turning Against Homelander (& It’s Not Soldier Boy)

The latest episode of The Boys Season 5 hints that one of The Seven might finally betray Homelander, and it’s not who you’d expect – not Soldier Boy. The relationships within The Seven have always been fragile, with each member looking out for themselves, and always aware that Homelander could turn on them at any time. We’ve seen this happen before, most notably with the deaths of Black Noir and A-Train. So, it’s smart for members of Vought’s elite team to stay in Homelander’s good graces, but his unpredictable behavior makes that difficult. Warning: Spoilers ahead for Season 5, Episode 4.

The members of the Seven are constantly aware of how quickly Homelander could turn against them, which explains why The Deep and Firecracker are so eager to please him. Even though one other teammate doesn’t show her approval as openly, she understands he’s unpredictable and a threat. She’s prepared to betray him to protect herself, and a recent scene in The Boys clearly demonstrates this.

The Boys Season 5 Just Set Up Sister Sage Turning on Homelander

Sister Sage spent much of The Boys subtly helping Homelander become more powerful, and his rise to dominance in Season 4 was a direct consequence of her plans. However, it’s quickly apparent that Sage isn’t motivated by loyalty to him. She enjoys controlling people, particularly men who don’t take her seriously. In Season 5, Episode 4, she demonstrates her willingness to betray Homelander if it benefits her. She’s beginning to understand how dangerous it would be for him to get V1. While she doesn’t seem to care about his mistreatment of others, an invincible Homelander would complicate her work – and potentially make her expendable, which she finds unacceptable.

Sister Sage reveals to Soldier Boy that Homelander visited Fort Harmony, hoping he’ll stop Homelander from finding the V1 serum. She deliberately emphasizes that Soldier Boy and Homelander would be stuck together forever—knowing how much Soldier Boy dislikes his son—to provoke a reaction. Sister Sage understands that Soldier Boy is the only one who could potentially thwart Homelander’s plans, either through a fight or by distracting him. While this doesn’t end up being needed—Bombsight takes the serum first—her prediction of the two supes needing each other’s support proves accurate. It’s a smart play that sets up a larger deception down the line, as she’s clearly willing to work against Homelander if it serves her own interests.

Gen V Season 2 Already Proved Sister Sage Is Untrustworthy

Look, anyone watching Gen V Season 2 before The Boys Season 5 should’ve already suspected Sister Sage wasn’t on the level. The show cleverly establishes her duplicity with her relationship with Thomas Godolkin – a relationship she actively hides from Homelander. That alone tells you she’s comfortable with deception. But it’s her ultimate betrayal of Godolkin that really solidifies it: Sage is a self-serving character, plain and simple. She’s looking out for number one, and that’s something to keep in mind as things unfold.

Even though Sage and Godolkin have a complex relationship, she’s the one who ultimately allows Marie and her friends to win. Understanding his plans – and the trouble she’d face from Homelander if she didn’t intervene – she releases Polarity and helps him and Marie get into a position to defeat Godolkin. This betrayal of Godolkin suggests she might also turn on Homelander if necessary, especially to save herself. Because she’s so clever and calculating, she could even play a role in bringing Homelander down. However, since Sister Sage is primarily focused on her own survival, it’s unlikely she’d genuinely help the heroes.

Season 5’s Looming Betrayal Probably Won’t Help The Boys Either

Sage is always looking for an advantage in the world of The Boys, and any actions she takes against Homelander would probably just reinforce the corrupt system he benefits from. She doesn’t share the same goals as The Boys, so it’s unlikely she’d help them defeat Homelander unless she’s desperate. Instead, she seems more likely to work with Stan Edgar, who wants to take control after Homelander is out of the picture. We even see hints of a possible alliance with Soldier Boy. Ultimately, the fragile truce between Sage and Homelander is bound to end, and it will be fascinating to see how their clash of intelligence and strength plays out.
