Season 5 of The Boys will be the show’s last, and it’s bringing the story back to where it started. As the conflict with Homelander reaches its peak, the ending will feel complete and connected to the very beginning. This became clear with the death of A-Train in the Season 5 premiere, which finished his journey after he killed Robin in the first episode. The third episode of Season 5, titled “Every One of You Sons of B*tches,” continues this trend of bringing things full circle. Be warned: spoilers follow from this point on.
Episode 3 of The Boys brings back a former Vought CEO, Stan Edgar. Having previously worked against Vought and Homelander – as established in Season 2 of Gen V – he now wants to team up with Starlight, Hughie, and the rest of The Boys. He’s joined by Maverick, the son of the now-deceased Supe Translucent (who was a member of The Seven and could become invisible). However, after discovering the truth about his father, Maverick betrays The Boys, leading to an exciting scene and the deaths of two characters.
How Translucent Died & How The Boys Season 5 Makes It Better

In the first season of The Boys, Translucent was a key villain and became a target of Hughie’s quest for revenge against A-Train. After Hughie was discovered spying on Vought Tower, the group captured Translucent and imprisoned him, then spent a significant amount of time trying to find a way to kill someone who was almost impossible to destroy. They ultimately used an explosive device implanted inside him, which Hughie detonated, covering him in blood and resulting in his first kill.
Hughie’s past confrontation with Maverick was significant, and now, seven years later, Season 5 of The Boys is exploring the full impact of that event. Maverick discovers Hughie was responsible for his father’s death, which leads to an exciting fight. More importantly, it forces both characters to confront their deep-seated grief and trauma. This allows Hughie to finally process his actions and the pain of losing his own father, as well as the lingering anger from when A-Train killed Robin.
This scene effectively echoes A-Train’s death, offering Hughie a similar moment of painful realization – but one he lives through. It’s a clever and moving way to revisit a key moment from Season 1 of The Boys, and a pivotal point for Hughie’s character. By showing the impact on Maverick, it makes Translucent’s death feel truly tragic, and that sadness is then amplified by his own passing.
Why Cindy Killed Maverick, Translucent’s Son, In The Boys Season 5

Maverick almost got his revenge on Hughie, potentially killing him, but Cindy intervened. Cindy is one of the most powerful Supes in Season 5 of The Boys, strong enough to take down Maverick… though she wasn’t aiming for him. Some viewers were confused, but Cindy’s target was actually Hughie. Because Maverick was invisible, she didn’t see him and accidentally killed him instead.
The shocking event also resulted in Cindy’s death, with Starlight breaking her neck – a significant moment in the show. Unlike many other Supes, even those on The Boys, Annie January has generally avoided taking lives. According to Erin Mortiary, in an interview with ComicBook a few years ago, Annie needs a reason to kill – she has to be provoked first. With Hughie’s life in danger, that situation would clearly count as provocation, explaining why she intervened to save him.
New episodes of The Boys release on Wednesdays on Prime Video.
