The Boys’ “Surprising” Series Finale Hyped By Star Amid Mixed Audience Reactions

The popular Prime Video show The Boys will finish its run in under three weeks, and actor Chace Crawford hints that the finale next month will be full of surprises.

In a recent interview with ScreenRant, actor Karl Urban admitted filming the last episode of The Boys was challenging but enjoyable. He explained that creating a satisfying conclusion for characters viewers had followed for seven years required a significant amount of effort.

Unlike many TV shows, the actors and crew were able to conclude the series as they envisioned, and according to showrunner Eric Kripke, he crafted a truly satisfying finale.

The actor remained tight-lipped about the story, but assured fans they’ll enjoy it. He hinted, “I think it’s going to be good,” and added that there will be unexpected moments, which he’s enthusiastic about.

Crawford admitted he hasn’t seen all the footage from the finale, only what he personally filmed. However, he’s excited to watch the full series finale when it becomes available on Prime Video on May 20th.

Looking back on his role in The Boys, actor Crawford stated he doesn’t think he’ll ever have as much fun or experience anything as strange as playing Kevin Kohler, also known as The Deep.

Filming was challenging, but incredibly enjoyable. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the show ends. While I don’t know all the details of what was filmed beyond my own scenes, it was a huge amount of work. It’s rare for a TV show to end on its own terms, and knowing that the creator was crafting a perfect finale made it special. We all felt like we were part of something truly great – one of the best shows ever made. I’ll always cherish the experience of playing the Deep and exploring his character. And as for the finale itself? I think viewers are going to love it. There are some unexpected moments, and I’m really excited for everyone to see it.

Before landing his role in The Boys, Chace Crawford was well-known for playing Nate Archibald on Gossip Girl. He’s also been in several other projects, including Blood & Oil, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, Eloise, Nighthawks, and Inheritance.

The cast of the intense superhero show alongside Antony Starr and Karl Urban includes Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Jensen Ackles, Cameron Crovetti, Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Daveed Diggs.

Prime Video’s The Boys quickly became popular with both viewers and critics when it premiered in 2019. The first season earned an 85% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and the subsequent two seasons were even better, achieving impressive scores of 97% and 98% respectively.

New episodes of The Boys season 5 are coming out every Wednesday, and critics are loving it – it’s currently ‘Certified Fresh’ on Rotten Tomatoes with a 95% approval rating. However, viewers haven’t reacted as strongly. While most fans are enjoying the new season, their approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes is significantly lower – 21% lower – than the critics’.

Actually, season 5 of The Boys currently has one of the lowest audience ratings of the show so far. Seasons 3 and 4 received even lower scores, with 72% and 54% respectively.

Some viewers appreciate how closely this season follows the original comic book, while others feel the show has become preachy and is using its platform to express opinions on American politics.

The Boys’ Rotten Tomatoes Scores Tomatometer (Critics) Popcornmeter (Audiences)
Season 1 85% 90%
Season 2 97% 84%
Season 3 98% 72%
Season 4 92% 54%
Season 5 95% 74%

It’s uncanny how some plotlines in The Boys season 5 resemble things happening in real life, especially considering the scripts were written before the current U.S. president began their term.

The show The Boys, like the original comic books and many others in the genre, has always included commentary on politics and the influence of big corporations – this has been a feature of the medium for a long time.

New episodes of The Boys come out every Wednesday on Prime Video, and the last episode will air on May 20, 2026.
