Okay, so I just saw the trailer for this new movie called THE BRIDE, and it looks seriously interesting. It’s from Maggie Gyllenhaal, who I really admire – she got an Oscar nomination for The Lost Daughter. And the cast? Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale – both incredible actors, with awards to prove it! It seems like they’re doing something really different and fresh with this classic story, which I’m definitely excited about.
A solitary Frankenstein, played by Christian Bale, journeys to 1930s Chicago seeking the help of Dr. Euphronious (Annette Bening), a brilliant scientist, to create a partner for him. They successfully bring a young, murdered woman back to life, resulting in the creation of The Bride (Jessie Buckley). However, the consequences are far beyond what they expected, leading to murder, supernatural possession, the rise of a rebellious cultural movement, and a passionate, dangerous love affair.
Universal’s Bride of Frankenstein was a classic black and white horror film, but this new movie from Warner Bros. offers a very different take on the story. It should be a good contrast to the upcoming Frankenstein film by Guillermo del Toro on Netflix.
Featuring Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale – whose makeup evokes classic monster films – Peter Sarsgaard (the director’s husband), Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal (the director’s brother), and Penélope Cruz, this new version of the story boasts a fantastic cast.
This is the second time the story of The Bride of Frankenstein has been remade. The first remake, The Bride, came out in 1985 and starred Sting and Jennifer Beals, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the original 1935 film. Based on the trailer, this new version appears to be a visually striking take on the classic, and with its talented cast, it’s likely to attract viewers.
THE BRIDE! is in cinemas 6th March 2026
