The Capture creator explains Carey’s decisions in mind-bending season 3 episode 2

*Warning – contains spoilers for The Capture episodes 1-2.*

Episode 2 of The Capture season 3 is now streaming on BBC iPlayer. It continues the story right after the shocking ending of episode 1, where Rachel Carey encountered the man she witnessed murdering Isaac Turner.

The man being discussed is Noah Pierson, the recently appointed Commander of Counter Terrorism Command and Carey’s supervisor. In the second episode, she desperately tries to convince her coworkers that he was the one who fired the shots, but they understandably doubt her.

Police are still searching for James Whitlock, who was filmed during the assault. But what really happened?

Because she was so sure of her suspicions, Carey requested a thorough background check on Pierson. By the end of the second episode, she’d gone even further, asking Frank Napier to forcibly bring him in.

Ben Chanan, the creator of ‘The Capture,’ recently discussed Carey’s unpredictable behavior in episode 2 with TopMob. Her colleagues noticed it, and Pierson didn’t appear to be concealing his feelings either.

Chanan explained they were trying to create doubt about Carey’s ability to make an arrest, questioning both how and why he would even consider it.

He explained that most people would have doubted things much faster than she did. She’s very confident in her own judgment and quite stubborn. He said he, and likely others, would have immediately dismissed something as impossible if it didn’t seem logical, simply because of how it appeared.

We usually dismiss those kinds of feelings pretty fast because they seem so unbelievable. But Carey is different; she strongly believes she’s always correct. Is that a weakness, or is she actually right?

Killian Scott plays Noah Pierson. Holliday Grainger and Ron Perlman reprise their roles as Rachel Carey and Frank Napier, respectively, from the previous seasons. Paapa Essiedu also returns as Isaac Turner, but his appearance this season is brief and heartbreaking.

Now we have to wait until next week for the third episode, which Chanan says is their best one yet.

The Capture season 3 will continue on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday 22 March 2026.
