Sequels…
The first Devil Wears Prada movie was a huge success in 2006, earning $326 million – nearly ten times its production cost. Despite this, a sequel didn’t appear for 20 years, mainly because Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway were hesitant to return, fearing it could damage the original film’s reputation. However, both actresses have since won Oscars, and the first film helped launch Emily Blunt into stardom, with her going on to work with major directors and actors like Christopher Nolan, Tom Cruise, and Dwayne Johnson. Getting the original cast back seemed difficult (and will definitely be more expensive this time around). But after the sequel quickly earned $253 million in under two weeks and continues to perform well, discussions about The Devil Wears Prada 3 have already begun!
The second movie concludes on a positive note, showing Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), Andy (Anne Hathaway), and Nigel (Stanley Tucci) successfully moving forward with their fashion magazine, ‘Runway,’ now supported by Sasha Barnes (Lucy Liu) despite the growing influence of online media. Even Emily (Blunt), after her attempt to undermine things, finds a path to recovery at Coach. This leaves a lot of interesting possibilities for a third ‘Devil Wears Prada’ film, with plenty of story potential to explore.
The Devil wears Prada 3….
Director David Frankel hasn’t ruled out making another film. He admits it took two decades to create the latest one, and while he previously swore he’d never do another, he’s now open to the possibility. He’d be happy to return if the chance arose to work with the same actors and revisit those beloved characters.
….so The Devil wears Prada 3 would seem to be a high certainty!
