It feels increasingly unlikely that The Elder Scrolls 6 will ever be released. The last major installment, Skyrim, came out in 2011, and the first trailer for the next game was shown seven years ago. We might have to wait twenty years for a new Elder Scrolls title, and recent comments from Todd Howard suggest that’s a very real possibility.

It’s Fiction, Bethesda Made It Up

Bethesda recently shared detailed information about the upcoming Starfield expansion, and confirmed the game will also be released on PlayStation 5. During an interview with Bethesda’s Todd Howard about the expansion, IGN playfully tried to get him to reveal when we might see The Elder Scrolls 6 and why it’s been so long since it was first announced.

His response: “Just pretend we didn’t announce it. Doesn’t exist.”

Later in the interview, when IGN pressed for details on the game’s development, Todd Howard surprisingly responded with “Nothing” and claimed he’d never heard of it. This has led fans to wonder if he’s deliberately trying to mislead them about the game’s existence, or if he’s simply being evasive.

Howard is likely tired of constantly being asked about the next Elder Scrolls game. The announcement of The Elder Scrolls 6 came far too early, especially considering Bethesda was already working on a massive project like Starfield. His recent comments seem like an attempt to downplay the announcement, almost suggesting it’s too distant to matter anymore.

It’s been seven years since the game was first announced, and fans would love to hear something – even if Bethesda prefers to forget! Now that Starfield is released and a PlayStation 5 version is nearly complete, The Elder Scrolls 6 is the main priority. When we’ll actually get news or a proper reveal is anyone’s guess, but let’s hope it’s soon, before Todd Howard loses his patience!
