Marvel’s iconic family, The Fantastic Four, makes their long-awaited entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the film titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“. A scene from the latest trailer for this movie suggests a potentially catastrophic conclusion to Phase 5. Actors Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will portray the Fantastic Four in an alternate, 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic Earth depicted in “First Steps“. This raises questions about how they’ll fit into the main storyline of the MCU. There’s a possibility that their arrival has already been hinted at in “Thunderbolts*“, and a new theory may provide an explanation for their multiverse-spanning journey.
In the latest trailer for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” there’s a moment featuring a towering structure in Paris emitting a powerful energy blast toward the cosmos. A keen-eyed Reddit user has noticed this scene looks like Marvel Comics’ Ultimate Nullifier, a potent artifact used by the Ultimate Fantastic Four team on Earth-1610 to transfer residual energy from another reality’s Big Bang into the Gah Lak Tus swarm, weakening it. If the Fantastic Four in “First Steps” attempt something similar – drawing energy from another universe to combat Galactus (Ralph Ineson) – there’s a chance they might trigger an incursion event.
Galactus, a powerful cosmic entity, is set to make a thrilling debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Although not conventionally evil, Galactus poses a grave danger to Earth. Accompanied by his empowered Heralds, such as the Silver Surfer, he roams the universe in search of planets to consume. In the upcoming movie The Fantastic Four: First Steps, it’s speculated that Earth will be Galactus’ next target. With the Fantastic Four now part of Earth-616’s main continuity, some fans are worried that Galactus might succeed in destroying our world. To prevent this catastrophe, however, the Fantastic Four’s actions could potentially create an even bigger problem.
As Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) progresses into Phase 6, the highly anticipated Russo brothers’ films, “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” are on the horizon, bringing a heightened focus on incursions. The intriguing idea of multiverse collisions disrupting the boundaries between universes was initially presented in 2022’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” This concept has since been hinted at and even depicted in series like “What If…?” and other MCU productions. Following the upcoming movie, “First Steps,” the Fantastic Four will reappear in “Doomsday,” a film predicted to involve incursions. Given this, it seems logical that “First Steps” would serve as the starting point for this captivating narrative unfolding.
It’s yet to be confirmed if what we see in the trailer for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is indeed the Ultimate Nullifier, but fans are excited about the potential depiction of this significant aspect from the Fantastic Four’s comic book history within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, using such a powerful artifact might lead to even greater and irreversible challenges in the MCU’s forthcoming narrative. The film “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is set to premiere in theaters on July 25, 2025, marking the beginning of Phase 6, so we won’t have to wait long to find out more.
