The First 10 Members of the Suicide Squad, Ranked by Power

The Suicide Squad is a top-secret government team made up of lesser-known DC Comics villains who are considered disposable. It’s a modern take on a team that first appeared during World War II, now led by Amanda Waller and Rick Flag Jr. The unique catch is that the team members are imprisoned supervillains who are offered shorter sentences in exchange for their service – but they’re all fitted with explosives that Waller can detonate if they disobey. The original Suicide Squadron first appeared in a comic in 1959, but the version most people know today was introduced in 1987.

Okay, so the movie starts with a fascinating look at how the Suicide Squad actually came together. We see Amanda Waller stumble upon these files – basically a list of the worst of the worst – and she immediately knows what she needs to do. She taps Rick Flag Jr. to lead, and then the real fun begins as she starts rounding up this incredibly diverse and frankly, wild, group of DC villains. It’s a great setup – ten of the most unpredictable bad guys you’ll ever see, all forced to work together!

10) Rick Flag Jr.

Rick Flag Jr. is considered one of the least powerful members of the initial Suicide Squad because he doesn’t have any superpowers. Despite this, he’s the team’s leader – a highly skilled soldier and tactician who directs the squad in the field. However, some team members have died under his command, raising questions about his effectiveness as a leader. His primary job is to control the dangerous criminals on the team, and he’s not meant to be a powerhouse fighter. He did successfully lead the first team to defeat a dangerous creature called Brimstone.

9) Black Spider

Let me tell you about Black Spider, a character who first appeared back in 1976’s Detective Comics. He’s essentially DC’s version of the Punisher – a highly skilled vigilante driven to action after a terrible family tragedy. He’s not a superhero with powers, but a supremely trained human being, an expert marksman and martial artist. In fact, DC later brought him into the Suicide Squad storyline while he was incarcerated. If you’re familiar with characters like Deadshot or Captain Boomerang, think along those lines – Black Spider is a highly effective, and lethal, assassin for hire.

8) Blockbuster

Blockbuster was a scientist who used a special formula on himself to become incredibly strong. Unfortunately, it turned him into a dangerous, almost mindless monster. Originally a villain who fought Batman, he later joined the Suicide Squad after the ‘Crisis’ event. Amanda Waller offered him a chance at a cure if he’d work with her team, but that promise was never fulfilled. Despite his immense strength, he was quickly killed during the first Suicide Squad mission – incinerated by Brimstone, making him the first member of the team to die in the comics.

7) Captain Boomerang

Captain Boomerang isn’t a super-powered member of the Suicide Squad, but he consistently outlives his teammates, even after betraying them. Digger Harkness, a recurring enemy of the Flash, was an original member of the team and participated in the initial mission against Brimstone. Though he couldn’t defeat Brimstone on his own, he served as a valuable distraction and, unlike some others, survived. Captain Boomerang’s skill lies in his mastery of boomerangs, including a variety of specialized, trick boomerangs. He’s proven to be the most consistently surviving member, despite being considered expendable.

6) Plastique

Plastique, whose real name is Bette Sans Souci, is a Canadian terrorist with the dangerous ability to explode anything she touches. She began as a villain in DC Comics’ Firestorm series and was later recruited from prison to join the government’s Suicide Squad in its first issue (1987). Amanda Waller added her to the team at Belle Reve for dangerous missions. The strength of her explosions depends on the size of what she touches – she could potentially destroy an entire city block with a large enough object. Because she has genuine metahuman powers, she’s more powerful than the non-powered mercenaries on the team, such as Black Spider.

5) Nightshade

Nightshade, whose real name is Eve Eden, is a reliable member of the Suicide Squad, alongside teammates like Rick Flag Jr., Vixen, and Bronze Tiger. Unlike most of the team, she isn’t a criminal, and she’s been a part of the Suicide Squad for a long time, first appearing in the original Charlton Comics series. Her powers involve manipulating shadows – she can blend into darkness, move through a shadow dimension, and even create solid objects from the shadows. She first appeared in Suicide Squad #1 in 1987, and her unique abilities make her a valuable asset, even among the villains on the team.

4) Deadshot

Let me tell you about Deadshot, or Floyd Lawton as he’s known. He’s been a thorn in Batman’s side for years, and for good reason – he’s arguably DC’s best killer. Seriously, if you’re in his sights, you’re finished. I remember seeing him in the first Suicide Squad movie, taking down Brimstone – a really tough villain. It was a team effort, with Boomerang and Blockbuster creating a distraction, but it was Deadshot’s perfect shot that ultimately ended the fight. What really struck me about this character, though, is his backstory. They gave him some genuine emotional depth, which made him surprisingly tragic. He doesn’t have superpowers, but his incredible accuracy makes him a lethal force, and it’s no surprise he’s stuck around through so many different versions of the team.

3) Vixen

As a huge superhero fan, I’ve always found Vixen fascinating. She’s genuinely one of the good guys on the Suicide Squad, a former Justice League member, no less! What really drew me to her story is that she joined Amanda Waller’s team hoping to get a handle on her wild side – her animal instincts sometimes take over in a fight, and Waller promised to help her control them. Honestly, she’s one of Waller’s most reliable and powerful agents. The coolest part? Vixen can access the powers of any animal that’s ever existed! We’re talking elephant strength, cheetah speed, even the ability to fly – it’s an incredible power set.

2) Bronze Tiger

Bronze Tiger was an original member of the Suicide Squad and is considered one of its most skilled fighters. He’s renowned throughout the DC Universe as a highly dangerous hand-to-hand combatant, on par with experts like Lady Shiva and Richard Dragon. Amanda Waller often relies on him, and he even served as co-leader alongside Rick Flag Jr. A master of many martial arts and weapon styles, Bronze Tiger has defeated numerous opponents with superpowers, relying on his skill rather than any powers of his own. He’s arguably the deadliest close-quarters fighter the team has ever seen.

1) Enchantress

The Enchantress is a powerful magical being who shares a body with June Moone. She’s considered the strongest member of the original ten Suicide Squad members. During their first mission, she played a crucial role in defeating Brimstone by directly altering his energy, which allowed Deadshot to land the final blow. Her ability to manipulate reality far surpasses the powers of all the other original Squad members. While June Moone is a loyal host, the Enchantress is the most unpredictable, often taking control and acting on her own desires.
