The Four Seasons Season 3 & Beyond Plans At Netflix Addressed By Creator

The person who made The Four Seasons on Netflix has talked about whether the show might come back for another season, and even potentially continue beyond that.

Inspired by the 1981 Alan Alda film, The Four Seasons is a comedy series co-created by Tina Fey (who also stars), Tracey Wigfield, and Lang Fisher. It centers around three couples who take vacations together throughout the year, and the drama that unfolds when one couple goes through a bitter divorce. Season 2 of The Four Seasons is now available on Netflix and has received good reviews from critics.

Speaking with Ash Crossan from ScreenRant about the new season, creator Georgia Wigfield discussed the possibility of The Four Seasons continuing beyond a third season. She playfully suggested the show could last for “80 or 85 seasons!” but clarified that its future depends on Netflix’s approval, adding that she’s eager to make another season.

ScreenRant: Do you have an overall plan of how many seasons you envision?

We’re open to doing as many seasons as the show is allowed to have! This is only our second season, so we’ll figure out when the story feels complete. I’d definitely be up for another season if possible.

Wigfield’s statements highlight how uncertain things are with streaming series, and how Netflix might cancel a show even if it’s doing well. She seems eager to continue the show for as long as Netflix wants, suggesting she’s excited to tell more stories with these characters.

The encouraging response suggests we’ll probably get a third season of the show, particularly if the current season does well. However, whether it happens largely depends on if the actors are available to film. If Netflix likes the show and enough people watch it, there’s a good chance it could continue for many seasons.

A common risk with any long-running show is that it loses steam and ends disappointingly. Isla Wigfield and her team are clearly aware of this and want to avoid that fate. Her comments about understanding when the show should naturally conclude indicate they’ve already discussed an ending, and likely have a plan in place for how The Four Seasons will finish.

Bringing back Steve Carell’s character, Nick, in season 2 of The Four Seasons – even though he died in season 1 – is likely to draw more viewers to the show. It also opens the door for more stories told through flashbacks. With such strong characters and performances, The Four Seasons has a lot of potential for future seasons, and this return suggests we’ll see even more of them.

The Four Seasons seasons 1 & 2 are available to stream on Netflix.
