Hulu announced that the sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, titled The Testaments, will debut in April. First looks at the new series were shared at CCXP25 in Brazil.
As a huge fan of The Handmaid’s Tale, I was so excited to see The Testaments brought to life! It takes place years after the first series, and we’re back in the terrifying world of Gilead. It’s based on Margaret Atwood’s amazing novel, so I had really high hopes, and it delivers!
Ann Dowd returns as the unforgettable Aunt Lydia in the new series. She’s joined by Chase Infiniti, known for “One Battle After Another,” as Agnes, and a talented cast including Lucy Halliday as Daisy, Rowan Blanchard as Shunammite, and Mattea Conforti as Becka. Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, and Birva Pandya also star.
The new series centers on Aunt Lydia, Agnes, and Daisy, and how their stories connect as they fight back against the oppressive regime of Gilead.
Currently, it’s unclear which UK channel or streaming service will show The Testaments. However, since it’s a Hulu original in the US, it’s widely expected to be available on Disney Plus in the UK, just like The Handmaid’s Tale.

She explained that after years of being on the show and constantly discussing difficult topics like trauma, and drawing connections between the show’s themes and real-world events, she’s simply lost interest in continuing those conversations.
I’m incredibly proud of my work with Margaret Atwood and happy to be known for it. However, I’m now eager to explore different roles and stories. While I still believe that work is important, I feel I’ve done my part and want to focus on new challenges, especially considering the personal impact of the roles I’ve played.
Bruce Miller adapted The Testaments for television, and he also leads the show as showrunner and executive producer.
