We’re familiar with trailers being released closer to a film’s release date, but the trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping came out surprisingly early – a full year before the movie comes out!
What’s The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping trailer all about?
THE HUNGER GAMES: SUNRISE ON THE REAPING takes us back to the world of Panem, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy twenty-four years before the original Hunger Games. The story begins on the day of the Fiftieth Hunger Games, also called the Second Quarter Quell.
Who will star in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping?
I’m really excited about the cast they’ve assembled for this movie! It’s going to feature Joseph Zada, along with some incredible actors like Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, and Glenn Close. Plus, Kieran Culkin, Elle Fanning, Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. are all on board – it’s a seriously talented group!
Behind the scenes….
Francis Lawrence is directing the film, based on a screenplay by Billy Ray. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force are producing, with Cameron MacConomy serving as executive producer. The franchise has already earned over $3.3 billion worldwide. While the movie was in development before the book’s release, Francis Lawrence first read a draft in the summer of 2024. However, full production didn’t begin until after the book came out in March 2025, with filming starting in July.
Some fun facts…..
The new book, Sunrise on the Reaping, quickly became a bestseller, selling 1.5 million copies in its first week across the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. In the U.S. alone, 1.2 million copies were sold, which is double the first-week sales of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and triple the sales of Mockingjay.
ONLY IN CINEMAS from 20th NOVEMBER 2026
