Godzilla is a globally recognized icon, appearing in countless movies, comics, and other media. His comic book adventures have been particularly exciting lately, featuring storylines where he rampaged across the United States, teamed up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and unlocked a powerful new ability called Kai-Sei energy. However, a major development that fans have been anticipating has finally arrived, promising to be the biggest moment in Godzilla’s history.
I remember last fall when IDW dropped a hint about something big happening to Godzilla in issue #6. They showed a variant cover by Dan Jurgens – the artist famous for the “Death of Superman” story back in the 90s – and it really looked like Godzilla was going to change in a huge way. It was at the end of the first big story arc from writer Tim Seeley and artist Nikola Čižmešija, and now ComicBook is sharing all the details about just how massive that change is!
The King of the Monsters Is Down (But This Is Far From The End)

The latest issue of Godzilla #6 features a huge showdown between teenager Jacen – who also possesses Godzilla-like abilities – and the iconic monster himself. Jacen has been seeking revenge on Godzilla for a long time, and this issue brings that conflict to a head. While G-Force, led by Dr. Rumi Chiba, tries to intervene, a fierce and emotionally charged battle ensues. The stakes are even higher with the involvement of Lament, who is revealed to be Jacen’s mother. The conflict reaches a terrifying climax as Jacen’s anger intensifies and Godzilla falls – but not without consequences. Ultimately, Jacen and Godzilla merge into a single being, a pivotal moment that editor Jake Williams says will dramatically change the story going forward.
Comic writer Williams shared with ComicBook that ‘The Fall of Godzilla’ perfectly captures what he enjoys about long-running comic series. The initial story arc focused on establishing the characters, the world, and the central conflict, and now the creative team is free to explore truly imaginative ideas. This isn’t just a simple ‘heroes versus Godzilla’ story; the decision to transform Godzilla into a being of pure energy is the kind of bold move you only see in comics, allowing for a more complex narrative and visually stunning artwork. The story is now shifting to explore how all the world’s monsters are responding to Godzilla’s defeat, with a surprising twist: Godzilla’s essence now resides within a teenager.
The Most Powerful Godzilla Yet (And It’s Going to Get Wild)

What happens when Godzilla is powered by both Kai-Sei energy and pure rage? The sixth issue of Godzilla ends on a hopeful note – Las Vegas survives, and the world isn’t destroyed, even though Godzilla’s physical form is gone. However, even bigger problems are coming. Issue #7 hints that Jacen won’t be able to control all the energy formerly contained within Godzilla, and we’ve already seen a preview of just how powerful this new Kai-Sei Energy form will be. It looks like things are about to get chaotic!
As Williams previously explained, comics need to be bold and unexpected. He believes a dramatic fall for Godzilla is a fitting climax to the first story arc of this new, long-running Godzilla series – the first in over ten years! If you’ve been considering reading, now’s the perfect time. This series offers a unique take on Godzilla and will finally explore the story of ‘a boy with the power of Godzilla’ as promised.
