Fans have long hoped for a movie showing what happened to Aang and his friends as adults. While The Legend of Korra offered some glimpses into their lives after the original Avatar: The Last Airbender series, Paramount made a full-length film to fully explore their adult years. Unfortunately, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender was recently leaked online before its planned release on Paramount+ this fall. This leak could have significant consequences for Paramount and the entertainment industry, and its full impact is still being assessed.
With a production budget of $80 million, the recent leak of The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender could impact the film’s potential profits. Paramount initially planned a theatrical release but shifted to streaming on its platform this October. The leak raises concerns that fans who are already watching the movie online for free may not subscribe to Paramount+ to see it. While the original creators have commented on the breach, other animators have also shared their reactions on social media.
Animators Speak Out on Bending Leak
Paramount hasn’t officially commented on how the early versions of The Legend of Aang became available online, but they are investigating the leak. Julia Schoel, an animator at Paramount who worked on Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, publicly criticized the leak, calling it “incredibly disrespectful” to the artists involved. Schoel had previously expressed her disappointment with the decision to release The Last Airbender directly on Paramount+, stating that animators had spent years working on the film hoping for a theatrical release to showcase their efforts.
As a huge fan, I was really saddened to hear about the leaks surrounding the live-action Avatar movie! Tessa Bright, an animator who actually worked on The Last Airbender animated series and helped with this film, put it perfectly – it’s totally understandable why everyone involved is upset. So much heart and hard work went into making this movie, and you can really see that in the final result, I know I certainly will! Right now, Paramount hasn’t changed anything about the release date or plans, but I’ll definitely keep everyone posted with any news as it comes out – I’m excited to follow everything happening in the Avatar world!
