Prime Video announced that Season 4 of The Legend of Vox Machina will premiere on June 3rd after a two-year hiatus. The streaming service will release the three episodes weekly. Created by Critical Role and Titmouse, the animated fantasy series has an impressive 100% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes after three seasons.
Prime Video says the fourth season of The Legend of Vox Machine picks up a year after the events of the Chroma Conclave. The members of Vox Machina have gone their separate ways, each looking for love, family, and meaning in their lives. However, trouble is brewing, and they won’t stay apart for long. An ancient evil is rising, and Vox Machina must come together again to face a powerful new enemy.
Prime Video’s animated series The Legend of Vox Machina is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios, Critical Role, and Titmouse. The show features the voice talents of the founders of Critical Role: Laura Bailey (known for The Last of Us: Part II), Taliesin Jaffe (World of Warcraft), Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us), Liam O’Brien (Marvel’s Avengers), Matthew Mercer (Baldur’s Gate 3), Marisha Ray (Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft), Sam Riegel (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Travis Willingham (Dispatch). The Critical Role cast also serve as executive producers, alongside Chris Prynoski (Metalocalypse), Shannon Prynoski (Fairfax), and Ben Kalina (Big Mouth) from Titmouse.
As a huge fan, I love that The Legend of Vox Machina isn’t just a random story – it’s actually based on the very first adventure the Critical Role crew played! What’s even cooler is that the actors you hear voicing the characters in the animated series are the same people who originally played them in their Dungeons & Dragons game. It’s amazing to see that journey come to life on screen.
The Legend of Vox Machina Finally Returns
Originally starting as a fan-funded project on Kickstarter by the creators of Critical Role, The Legend of Vox Machina is now a Prime Video series. Amazon has ordered three more seasons, with a fifth and final season planned to conclude the story.
The animated series The Legend of Vox Machina has received praise for its clever balance of comedy and thrilling action, managing to be both exciting and funny without being overly dramatic or turning into a simple spoof. It was so popular that a sequel series, The Mighty Nein, was created. This new show is set 20 years after the events of The Legend of Vox Machina and is based on the story from Critical Role’s second campaign.
Both series are set in Exandria, the world originally created by Matthew Mercer for his Critical Role web series, using the rules of Dungeons & Dragons. While it’s a classic high-fantasy world, the stories often playfully subvert common fantasy clichés. Exandria and the show became so successful that Wizards of the Coast partnered with Critical Role to publish official Dungeons & Dragons books based in this setting.
Season 4 of The Legend of Vox Machina will begin streaming on Prime Video on June 3rd. You can currently watch Seasons 1 through 3 on Prime Video, and Season 5 is planned for release at a later date.
