Jamie Dornan will star as Aragorn in the new Lord of the Rings film, The Hunt for Gollum. He’s taking on the role previously made famous by Viggo Mortensen in Peter Jackson’s original trilogy.
The movie features a character who is an ally of Gandalf and goes by the name Strider. The story centers around his mission to find Gollum before Gollum can tell Sauron where the One Ring is hidden.
Originally, Leo Woodall, known for his roles in The White Lotus and One Day, was expected to play this part. However, it’s now confirmed he’ll be playing the character of Halvard instead.

Warner Bros. revealed at CinemaCon in Las Vegas yesterday, April 14th, that Jamie Dornan and Gemma Woodall have joined the cast, alongside several returning actors.
Elijah Wood will return as Frodo, and Sir Ian McKellen will reprise his iconic role as Gandalf. Andy Serkis will be back as Gollum, performing the character through motion capture, and will also be directing the project.
Lee Pace will return as Thranduil, having played the character in all three Hobbit films. Joining the cast is Kate Winslet as Marigol, though details about her role are currently scarce.

The Hunt for Gollum takes place between the stories of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, revealing a new chapter that director Andy Serkis has described as both expansive and deeply personal within the familiar world of Middle-earth.
Jamie Dornan, recently a guest host on Saturday Night Live UK, is known for his roles in popular projects like the TV series The Fall and The Tourist, and the films Belfast and The Haunting of Venice. He also starred in the Fifty Shades of Grey movies.
Following her breakout roles in The White Lotus and One Day, Woodall has recently appeared in the films Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy and Nuremberg, and the TV series Prime Target and Vladimir.
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is coming to cinemas in December 2027.
