Fans are eagerly anticipating updates on a major One Piece project, especially with a big year planned for the series in 2026. This March, Netflix will release the next part of its live-action One Piece series, continuing the adventures of the Straw Hat Pirates. The ongoing anime and manga are also progressing through Luffy’s final story arc. However, the premiere date for the Wit Studio remake remains unknown. Despite the studio, known for Attack on Titan and Spy x Family, keeping details under wraps, some new information and a glimpse of a powerful villain from the Grand Line have recently surfaced.
China recently announced a surprising collaboration: a local animation studio is partnering with Wit Studio on the upcoming One Piece remake. This update confirmed the project is also working with the team behind Spy x Family and offered a sneak peek at the animators’ work. Featured was Buggy, the well-known clown pirate and long-time opponent of the Straw Hat Pirates, who was previously shown as part of the remake’s promotion. The update also revealed a new look at Cabaji, a prominent member of Buggy’s crew who made a strong impression early in the series. You can view the new images below.
Chinese officials have confirmed that a local animation studio assisted WIT Studio with the new One Piece remake, and they’ve also released some updated artwork of the character Buggy.

What is The One Piece Remake?
I was so excited when One Piece got announced in 2023! Wit Studio teaming up with Netflix to revisit the Straw Hats’ journey is a dream come true. Even though the original One Piece anime is still going strong, this remake promises a slightly different take on Luffy’s story. One thing a lot of fans (myself included!) have always talked about is the amount of ‘filler’ and re-used animation in the Toei version. It sounds like the new series will really focus on streamlining the story and cutting down on those things, which I think is fantastic!
The upcoming adaptation of One Piece will stay true to the original story but feature a completely new animation style, different from what Toei Animation usually produces. While a release date hasn’t been announced yet, it will be a Netflix exclusive, which fits with Netflix’s significant investment in Eiichiro Oda’s popular series. Interestingly, Mayumi Tanaka, who has voiced Luffy for years, will be returning to the role. The animation studio, Wit, specifically requested she reprise her part, even though she was prepared to pass the character on to someone else.
