In a recent interview, actor Wil Wheaton, known for his role as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch on The Pitt, shared insights into what viewers can expect in Season 3. He explained that his character will confront the realization that he’s been acting out of character for quite some time and wouldn’t be pleased with his past actions if he’d been aware of them, particularly referencing Dr. Robby’s struggles in Season 2.
Dr. Robby’s Journey Through The Pitt Season 2 — Explained
The second season of The Pitt focused on the main characters over a difficult Fourth of July weekend, showing Dr. Robby’s increasing struggle with depression. The story eventually revealed he was having thoughts of suicide, highlighting the serious emotional toll that burnout and stress can take on people working in healthcare.
Wyle believed the man wasn’t truly confident, even when he seemed to be acting that way. He suggested the man was actually trying to deflect attention from his own insecurities. Essentially, it’s difficult to recognize vulnerability in others when you’re struggling with it yourself, Wyle explained.
Wyle talked about his approach to encouraging her, explaining that he constantly challenges her to reach her full potential, partly because he’s aware of his own weaknesses. He admitted his methods could be seen as harsh and unprofessional, but emphasized that he wants her to recognize her talent and potential the way he does.
What Can Fans Expect from The Pitt Season 3?
Season 3 of The Pitt is currently planned to launch in January 2027, picking up the story several months after the end of Season 2. According to creator R. Scott Gemill, the colder winter setting will be a significant part of the new season’s storylines.
While details about the plot of The Pitt Season 3 are still secret, Kimble Wyle shared some hints about the show’s direction. He explained that Season 1 focused on the idea of doctors needing care themselves, Season 2 showed how poorly doctors handle being patients, and Season 3 will explore how doctors can actually gain something from being in the patient role. He revealed this at a The Pitt panel during PaleyFest in Los Angeles.
I was hooked from the start – the show is just so well done and accurate! And it totally deserved all the Emmy buzz it got, especially winning Best Drama Series. But honestly, Season 2 blew me away even more! It’s actually got an even higher score on Rotten Tomatoes – a crazy 99% compared to the already amazing 94% of Season 1. Audiences seem to love it too, with an 86% approval rating overall. It’s just fantastic!
You can now watch The Pitt on HBO Max. The third season is predicted to be released in January 2027.
