Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have teamed up again for a new Netflix film, The Rip, and those involved praised their contributions to a smooth production process. The movie features Affleck and Damon as members of the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Tactical Narcotics Team. The story follows the entire team after their captain is killed, and suspicion falls on some of its members. The Rip explores a world of corrupt cops involved in drug house robberies, where even the main characters aren’t necessarily trustworthy. Director Joe Carnahan, known for the crime drama Narc, brings his expertise to this genre once more.
Director Joe Carnahan recently told ComicBook that working with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck made directing The Rip a surprisingly smooth process. He emphasized their filmmaking talent, noting they’re both Academy Award winners. Carnahan also believes Ben Affleck deserved a Best Director Oscar for Argo, feeling it was unfair he wasn’t even nominated despite the film winning Best Picture. Ultimately, he highlighted how comfortable and collaborative the two longtime friends are when working together.
As a fan, it’s just amazing to see these two guys, genuinely humble and down-to-earth despite everything. They’re childhood friends from Boston, and to see them both succeeding like this – it’s rare, like when Peyton and Eli Manning both won Super Bowls. It’s incredible! What makes it even better is that we’re all friends, and they never doubted my ability to make this film. They both loved my earlier work, Narc, and had complete faith in me, which means the world.
Sasha Calle, who co-stars in the film, also praised Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and the overall filmmaking experience. While relatively new to film, making her debut in The Flash as Supergirl after three years on The Young and the Restless, The Rip was only her fourth movie. Calle said she felt incredibly supported on set. “I was treated with so much love, respect, and felt safe,” she explained. “They created a wonderful environment where I could focus on my work, and I genuinely had a fantastic time working with Ben and Matt.”
Was The Rip a Netflix Hit?

Netflix’s new film, The Rip, quickly became popular after its release last week. Reviewers have given it high marks – it currently has an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is considered “certified fresh.” Many critics highlighted the natural connection between stars Damon and Affleck. Director Carnahan is well-known for his exciting crime thrillers, including films like Smokin’ Aces, Death Wish, and Copshop. The movie also features a strong supporting cast with impressive performances from Steve Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Scott Adkins, and Kyle Chandler.
Released on January 16th, the movie continues to dominate Netflix’s most-watched list by a significant margin. It’s far ahead of People We Meet on Vacation, with KPop Demon Hunters coming in third. It looks like this film will be remembered as one of Netflix’s biggest and most popular original movies, proving that the investment in its production was worthwhile.
