Joe and Anthony Russo are incredibly busy and successful directors in Hollywood. They’re currently filming the two big Marvel movies, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. Beyond that, they also run their own production company, AGBO, which is working on several films and TV series, including a revival of a very popular streaming show.
Season 2 of Citadel is now available on Amazon Prime Video, continuing the action-packed spy series created by the Russo brothers. Although it’s been three years since the first season, Citadel remains popular with viewers, according to the latest streaming ratings.
Citadel Season 2 Gets A Promising Premiere to Build On

According to sites that track streaming ratings, like FlixPatrol, the second season of Citadel is currently the second most popular show on Prime Video. It also ranks among the top ten shows overall, only surpassed by the latest episode of The Boys. The Boys has been a huge hit for a while, while Citadel gained a smaller, dedicated fanbase. So, this strong start for Season 2 is a good sign for the show.
Citadel tells the story of a top-secret spy agency facing its greatest threat. When the rival organization, Manticore, systematically destroys Citadel, nearly wiping out all of its agents, only two survive. Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra) have their memories erased by Citadel’s tech expert, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), as a last resort. They then spend the next eight years living normal lives, completely forgetting their past as spies.

Okay, so Season 1 was a wild ride! Basically, it followed the remaining members of the Citadel team – Mason, Nadia, Bernard, and their crew – trying to get these agents with wiped memories back into fighting shape, all while keeping their families safe. But the biggest shocker? It turned out Mason Kane was actually the one who leaked information and brought Citadel down! And get this – the seemingly sophisticated UK ambassador, Dahlia Archer (played by Lesley Manville), wasn’t just a high-ranking member of the evil Manticore group, she was Mason’s mother! Seriously, what a twist!
After three years of development, Citadel is finally here, and Prime Video has become a major streaming service thanks to popular shows like The Boys, Reacher, Invincible, and Fallout, which have attracted dedicated fans. Adding to this, the directors of Avengers: Doomsday are currently well-known, which should give Citadel more visibility. While plans for spin-off series in other countries, like Citadel: Diana in Italy and Citadel: Honney Bunny in India, were cancelled, the main series itself has received generally positive reviews from both critics and audiences.
