Fresh Faces Entering the Galaxy

The show is welcoming some exciting new actors to the cast, alongside our favorites, to bring a burst of fresh humor to the series.
-
Josh Gad has been the driving force behind this project for years, and he’ll not only star in the movie but also play a major role behind the camera.
-
Lewis Pullman, son of actor Bill Pullman, is said to be portraying Starburst, the child of the characters Lone Starr and Vespa.
-
Keke Palmer is joining the cast as a character called Destiny. Details about Anthony Carrigan’s role haven’t been revealed yet.
Behind the Camera
Josh Gad not only stars in the film, but also co-wrote it with Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit, the team behind Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. He’s also a producer on the project, working alongside comedy legend Mel Brooks and other producers from Imagine Entertainment – Brian Grazer, Kevin Salter, Josh Greenbaum, and Jeb Brody.
Josh Greenbaum, the director known for comedies like Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar and the documentary Will & Harper, is at the helm of this project. Filming began in September 2025 and finished in December 2025, giving Greenbaum and his team ample time to recreate the playful, self-aware humor that made the original 1987 film a fan favorite.
What’s the Plot?
Details about the movie’s story are being kept very secret, but those involved have jokingly called it a complicated sequel – a follow-up that isn’t a prequel or a reboot, yet includes elements of both, and expands the existing franchise. After forty years of Star Wars trilogies, spin-offs, and countless reboots, the creators have plenty of material to make fun of.
Prepare your Perri-Air and buckle up. The Schwartz returns to theaters on April 23, 2027.
