
Frogwares has announced that the sequel to its Lovecraftian survival horror game, The Sinking City 2, will be released in the first half of 2026. It will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG.
Frogwares hadn’t given a specific release date, but had suggested a surprise launch in 2025. However, they’ve decided to delay the game to allow more time for development. This decision was influenced by the war in Ukraine and the fact that the sequel is a very different type of game than their previous work. They want to ensure the game meets their standards before releasing it.
Sergiy Oganesyan, head of publishing at Frogwares, explained that making a game during wartime is unpredictable and requires constant adjustment. They faced repeated power outages due to attacks on the power grid, initially lasting for days, then shifting to nightly drone swarms. This meant working during the day and spending sleepless nights listening for explosions, all while needing to stay productive. These disruptions significantly slowed their progress, leading them to abandon their original release date. They felt rushing the remaining work wasn’t worthwhile, especially with the uncertainty of how Russia’s tactics might change during the winter. They prefer to be prepared to adapt again and prioritize quality over speed.
Alexander Gresko, lead game designer at Frogwares, explained that moving to the survival horror genre presented a significant new challenge. After over two decades of creating investigation-focused adventures, the team found survival horror demanded a completely different approach to game design, particularly in areas like building tension, controlling the pace, and designing combat. While they’ve always been fans of the genre, actually developing a survival horror game revealed just how much complexity there is, making the process both exciting and more time-consuming.
Oganesyan explained they haven’t finalized a date for 2026, but wanted to share their current plans. They prefer to wait until they’re certain before making an announcement, rather than potentially having to change the date later. They are currently targeting the first six months of 2026, meaning it’s likely to happen within the next few months, not years.
Frogwares just dropped 13 new screenshots, and let me tell you, the game looks amazing! We’re getting a really good look at the environments, the creepy enemies, and the overall vibe. They also said we’ll be seeing a lot more gameplay footage over the next few months, which is awesome. I can’t wait to see more!
