The second movie in Renny Harlin’s *The Strangers* series is now playing in UK cinemas, over a year after the first film came out. *Riverdale*’s Madalaine Petsch returns as a woman desperately trying to escape three masked attackers.
She hinted that viewers should stick around after the credits for a special scene, describing it as a major confrontation between two key characters – one of the biggest in horror movie history.
And she hopes fans won’t have too long to wait to find out the result of that showdown.
She said they’re rushing to finish Chapter 3 and are hoping the film’s ending will be captivating and leave a strong impression on viewers.
I hope people notice it,” she said. “A sense of curiosity, something unexpected to feel and see, but it’s definitely there.”
While the first movie closely followed the plot of the 2008 original, the sequel takes the story in fresh directions, notably by revealing more about who the killers really are.
A certain character shows up in multiple flashback scenes, but the actress, Petsch, emphasized that it was important not to give any of the villains extensive backstories.
She explained that a key element of the original story’s power is its lack of explanation. Giving a reason for the frightening elements, she believes, would actually diminish their impact and make them less scary.
It was a delicate balance, particularly for longtime fans of the original film. We really focused on hitting that sweet spot, and I can promise you one thing about these movies: we won’t give you any reason to be disappointed.
However, we’ll be offering glimpses into their pasts-showing you who they were as children. It’s not about explaining *how* they became who they are, just revealing earlier stages of their lives. A lot of people mistakenly believe we’re telling an origin story, but that’s not the case.
Honestly, what I love about these characters is there’s no big, dramatic backstory explaining *why* they are the way they are. They just *are*. What we’re seeing isn’t an origin story, it’s just glimpses of them earlier in their lives – that’s all there is to it, and I think that’s really cool.
